While my bike was at the shop undergoing other "improvements," I had this done. Thank you LeeC for the step by step instructions and advice! One deviation was done from the installation instructions: step #6 which involves wrapping the old battery connections to the new quick connect wiring. My shop tech scavenged the wiring from the old battery connections, resoldered it to the new quick connect wiring and then wrapped it. His concern was that the old battery connections were rather sharp and bulky and could cut possibly through any wrapping and cause a short or worse a spark/ fire. Just passing this on.

Regulator rectifier under the seat now and now to decide what to do with those battery case nubs. The quick connect makes it easy to remove the battery and perhaps its just me but I found access to the old battery to attach my Battery Tender in the battery case a real pain in the a**.

Hello Sport Classic Riders-

We're happy to now offer a battery tray based on the 3D model that Lee worked up.

Basically it's exactly what he made but in black ABS.

We have it on the site now and riders who bought a HICAP II underseat relocation kit will receive an email from us this weekend.

Cost is $100 for the custom kit with the battery retainer and SS Bolts.

Photos below show what you receive and how nicely the whole relocation kit and battery tray work together.

On a performance note, any efforts to minimize vibration reaching a battery is worthwhile.

No battery does well with excess vibration.

Thanks,

Say SC Riders,

Just want to give those who are contemplating the QR version of the kit, the heads-up that the price has to go up about $20 to compensate for the price increase on the QR coupling parts.

There is only 1 maker of a secure, polarized high current coupling connector and so we have to go with the flow when they raise prices.

If you buy now you can get the kit for the same price as when we launched it in back in 2012.

We will hold the price for another 2 weeks but after that it will rise, now's the time to make your move.

Hope This Helps.

M./

Any chance to get one for the lfx18?
Unfortunately it will not fit. The battery is larger in dimension and may not fit under the seat and wont fit into the battery tray that we have designed.

Although Shorai and other LiFePO4 battery makers state that an 18AH battery is required, - that is not the case when the bike is fitted with one of our HICAP•SCDC kits. The substantial increase in energy in our much higher quality starting circuit makes up for the 60 CCA difference between the 2 batteries.

We have supplied about 60 of our custom battery relocation kits with the 14AH Shorai and everyone has had excellent starting!

It's worked reliably with 14AH for me over the past few years. Just don't leave it in cold weather or it will dissipate quickly (sub-40F). I recommend buying the quick connection setup! There's enough power to reliably start the bike.

Agree with both motolectric and sunstar, I have personally ran a Shorai LFX14L2-BS12 for over 2 years and 5k miles on both my bikes a GT and Sport1000 and never had an issue with it.
Sunstar makes a fine point, if you live in an area that gets very cold just take the battery into a warm place. Our battery tray provides easy and quick access to the battery whenever you want to take it out.

Say Folks,

We've been upgrading the kits on an ongoing basis and just worked with Jose to fine-tune things a bit further.

We also redesigned the battery tray (just very slightly) and while doing that, 3D printed a couple that have a 1 mm offset error. It's just cosmetic and one of those things that no one would ever notice but we know it is there and so we can't sell them as our class A product.

So, if you have already bought a HICAP•SCDC underseat kit from us you can email us and catch one of the blems for $35 + shipping. Or you can email us and you can get one of the blems for $35 when you order a kit (note - there's only 2).

Below Jose's feedback we have the info on our current COVID-19 special.

If you have been thinking about a HICAP•SCDC kit( for any bike), it is a very good time to buy as the 2 upgrades are very well received and Hey! $60 of free upgrades is a good deal! ; - ).

Below is the email Jose sent back after fitting the new HICAP•SCDC battery relocation kit. He is in Spain and obtained the Shorai locally.

hi michael
I have finished installing the kit. I can't believe how well it works, the bike starts instantly. I pass you photos of the installation, it was literally invisible, if in any photo you see the cables it is because I have made an effort to take the image. I can only thank you, a top quality product and a personalized service that I value a lot. If you need information, any questions, please tell me. I say goodbye to you, we will speak in a while, I will ask you for a kit for a Monster S4rs. greetings, Jose

Right now, (for good vibes during the COVID-19 snafu) we’re including (2) $30 optional upgrades on the kits.

1) a new higher-spec Oxygen Free Copper wire we are experimenting with.

It is a custom wire that is 12% larger than the AWG 4 GA specification.

Since the energy in a circuit is in the metal, this results in 12% more energy in the upgrade (the HICAP•SCDC kit increases the energy in the starting circuit by about 300% in total).

2) a high-technology woven PET (PolyEthylene Terephthalate) overcoat on the leads in the kit.

It adds a nice luxe appearance, additional heat, and abrasion protection and has been requested by many riders.

Both Ducati and MV Agusta include this type of protective overcoat on their leads on their new bikes.

A little gratis ~cheer us up~ during these trying times.

They will each be a $30 option on our new site when it launches.

So, now is a good time to buy.
