The popular choice for a 999S on the street is either 14/36 96-link or the equivalent 15/38 98-link chain. The 15-tooth front combo choice will result in a lower chain tension and perhaps a longer service life.

mean when the chain is installed?? cant you adjust that ????

 

I like 14/39 on my 999R, which is about the same as 15/42.

I'll probably go to 15/43 when I need a new final drive set, which is the same ratio I use on my SS. (my ST2 has 14/43)

On my 2006 999S I'm running 14-38 and love it, easier off the line on the clutch than the stock (stupid) gearing, snappy power and wheelies so easy!!!

How is the wheelies ??? does it happen naturally during 1st and 2nd gear

when you open the throttle hard ??? Also how much top end did you loose??

Outstanding improvement. Good for NYC. No cab will beat you off the line.
If you're going to 520, get LT's engine case guard, too. Cheap insurance.

Here is what to use for 999 or 999S, 14/39 great around town and highway.
The 999R has a different need for gearing and 14/38 also works great for that

14/ 39T wouldnt this be too aggressive ?? I have people telling me

that with 14 / 38T set up its easy to wheelie ~!! with 39T on the rear

isnt it worse ~?

 

Top speed with 14/39 is around 145mph and top speed with 14/38 is around 150mph. For 2003-2004 999's which carry more weight than the 2005-2007 999's can use the 14/39 gearing which is not to aggressive for your bike.
