As stated above I have an 04 ST4S. I will usually ride the freeways at about 80 - 85 and try to have as much fun as my comfort level allows while out in the twisties. All of this riding has been done while 2 up. I am 220 and my gf is 130. I am averaging 48 mpg. This far exceeds any other two up bike I have ever owned.

MPG has never been a concern of mine for motorcycles or fun cars (of course the less gas stops the better) but I am really amazed that this bike is getting this great of mileage.

What kind of mileage are you guys getting? Thanks

I run pretty much at the speeds you describe and get mid 40's over here but our gallons are bigger so you are doing well.
Riding style can have a big effect on economy , low use of brakes by forward planning and avoiding excessive throttle openings where possible (the type that don't really provide grunt just a deep and costly drone....) all help to save fuel without spoling enjoyment.
I have always been impressed by the economy of this bike and its touring range is impressive at 180-220 Miles when the need arises.
Have fun :))

35 to 50 depending on how I am riding, one up.

The hotter the ST4s engine runs, the better the fuel economy you'll get.

During the Summer months, I tend to get between 45-50 mpg with my '02 ST4s. My fuel warning light tends to come on around 170-180 miles and I usually push on until about 200 miles. When I eventually fill up, I usually have a little less than a gallon of gas left so I comfortably get 220+ miles out of a full tank. :D

A couple of summers ago, I rode across Oregon in ambient temps up around 100F. I don't think my engine temp ever dropped below 220 F. On that day, my fuel warning light didn't come on until 222 miles! I averaged about 55 mpg that day. :)

That was the 2006 West Coast Madness rally held at Joseph, OR. During that rally I was getting 50-52 mpg while canyon carving two up with my son.

My usual mileage is 46-48, although I have gotten close to 50 while slabbing it on I-5 between Portland and Seattle.

Have we ever talked about this before??????????

I have to really hammer my '04 ST4s in the twisties to get less than 43mpg. Last summer riding to Indy slabbing it, about 48mpg @ +/-85mph.

Riding the same way on 02 ST4S and getting with 2 up in the high 40's. Just completed 850 miles solo last weekend averaging 52 with no highway miles. All twisties and ended up in your neck of the woods Friday night. Stayed in Oxnard and went down to Westlake to Brent's deli. Only bad part of trip was having my tank bag and tail bag stolen. Empty except for tire repair kit, pressure guage and old sweatshirt.

Only get mid 30's on V Strom 1000.

I'm impressed.

My 06 ST3s has been getting better now with 4k miles getting about 42 mpg. When I first got it my mpg was about 37-39.

My question is does mpg improve with the miles on it or stay the same?

I have commented many times that the ST engines do not get fully broken until they reach at least 10,000 miles. I am no mechanic (nor have I played one on TV), but I would think a fully broken in engine would get better mpg than one which is not.
