UPDATE: easy remedy, removed the oem nut and replaced with an acorn nut that was bulbous enough to reach/touch the steering stops...maintains good turn radius and prevents damper from touching the tank.

I know I'm new to the SC1000 world but very not new to motorcycles but for the friggin' life of me I can't seem to remove the steering stop adjustment bolts. I added an Ohlins steering damper and need to prevent the damper from touching the tank but there isn't enough adjustment in the bolts. I was gonna find a larger nut possibly to make up some of the distance ot remove the oem bolt snd swap in a longer bolt.

I back it out (from the front of the bike under the headlight with the bolt coming out towards the front) and it just hard stops. I mean hard stops about halfway out. In either direction. I assume (maybe incorrectly) that it isn't supposed to back out going in the direction of the tank as it looks like there's a bit of a head where the allen goes into. (If this all makes sense)

So you are trying to increase the bolt length which in turn will decrease your “lock to lock” distance? It’ll also increase your turning radius?
If so, I had a similar issue and ended up glueing a washer on the stop.
Be advised, even the thinnest of washers will really increase your turning radius.

Exactly. Just want to leave a comfortable...I dunno....5-ish millimeters between the damper snd the tank. The tank is lined so I don't expect too much expansion

Good idea on maybe JB Welding a bumpstop extension on

Make sure you do a test fit with whatever you use for a spacer before you JB weld it on.
You might be surprised how little it takes to increase the turning radius.
I ended up having to go with a thinner washer because it practically took an airport parking lot to do a u turn 🤣
