Cat Eliminator Multi V4

I'm considering getting the full race exhaust to get rid of the Cat. It's too much heat in the summer. I visited a friend yesterday who had one installed and really like it. He had it re-mapped and the throttle response is excellent. Its just the cost .....

I see now that there are a few choices that just eliminate the cat with a mid pipe and you keep the stock exhaust and headers. Its less expensive option and it would still eliminate the heat which is my main concern, the bike is already fast as hell. With the stock exhaust it might be a little queiter. I assume you would still want to remap.

I'm wondering if this would be an issue with my warranty. I have the extended ever red. These mid pipes seem to run between $500 to $1100 for a titanium. I'm ok spending a little more if it's a better product and weighs less. Any experience would be helpful.

G'day Bay Pilot,

I can tell you about the QD midpipe decat.

It's been on my V4S Multi for nearly 20 months and around 25k KMs (app 15k miles).

It's not noisy, though it accentuates the idle to a nice thump, but won't deafen or annoy anyone.

I run the Akra Slippon because I stupidly bought it for $2k before realising the decat makes all the extra power & torque, not the muffler..... The stock muffler runs slightly better with the decat anyway due more back pressure, but I haven't needed to remap mine and it runs as well as it did stock, but with more go from idle and more urge up at 9k+.

A remap, if done properly, would be a plus in that it should give a sharper throttle but not remapping will not harm the engine and the ecu tunes itself to the decat. The throttle response is no worse than stock. A QD tuner agent confirmed this to me last year when I enquired out of curiosity and said some tuners only richened up the off idle AFR's anyway.

BTW, the Akra "full" system utilises the stock headers but replaces the cat with a dual pipe straight through exhaust whereas my QD midpipe only has one tube to fit the stock muffler.

The weight saving is about 6-7 kgs - very noticeable. Adds some nice but not naughty music with no downside. A good remap at a sensible price would be nice, but isn't vital unless perfection is required.

Can't say if the cheaper copies are equal or better but can say be careful ordering as they took 6months to make mine even though it was listed as 'in stock' ..... 😡.

Here's a pic when I first got delivery, checking fit & finish back in July 22.......

Cheers Bay Pilot,

Yes I fitted it myself.....watched a couple of UTube videos which didn't quite show all that's needed, but enough to get me started.

The key issue is center stand removal and loosening one footpeg unit to allow the decat to slip in behind the sump. The videos will show how to drop the front header pipe but they jump past the footpeg secret even though the one I saw admitted it took them hours to solve (and they were a Ducati dealer workshop)......

Knowing what I know now, it's an easy job, couple hours from belly pan & c-stand & header off to slip in (footpeg loosened) and clamp once settled nicely, and put all the above stuff back on.

Two footpeg bolts are hiding under a plastic cover which can come off by removing a dress nut from the swingarm axle or pushing it out of the way. I used a timber dowel to tap the footpeg forward, then back in place once the decat was in, but I read later the SA nut is just a dress piece holding the plastic cover....

👍

You, and the others do not need to retune for a decat with either OEM Slippon muffler, but might have to if a high flow airfilter (DNA, K&N etc) and a short race can like the QD gunfighter are added. Of course the throttle response remains like stock, euro controlled, so if you are after sharp track response, then a tune would be worth the spend, but I like sharp throttles and haven't had mine remapped.....though sometimes I think I should.....🤔

The combination of higher flow air and shorter fully open race can might put the ecu out of range for self tuning.

There should be no warranty issues - I had to wait so long for my decat once I made up my mind back in the early years with not much info avail, so I was halfway into the second year of the standard warranty and past the first major service with no issues.....I didn't tell anyone at the dealership and they don't care....the ecu tunes itself within limits anyway. It will take a good tankfull or two of riding for it to retune, so not an instant thing.

The Akra full exhaust is very different to a decat and Slippon.....it is way more 'straight through', shorter gas extraction via dual pipes to the stock looking but way less restricted muffler. It can be run without an upmap but no one has had the guts to try it and report.....but I suspect it might have a flat spot off idle without a retune.

There's so many V4's out there now, so many have done tune jobs, so there's lots more info than I had back in 2021.

I have a 2023 Pikes Peak and just had the LeoVince decat pipe installed. I’m trying to get information on the need for a retune of the ECU.
I will say the stock PP Akrapovic slip on is very loud at start up and idle but seems to better under acceleration. Do I need to replace the slip on due to the loss of back pressure from the decat?
Hard to find any info out there.

The LeoVince unit looks like a high quality unit and was available without wait.

I think the full Akra was the priciest exhaust upgrade I’ve ever done, but the system is nice and it’s fairly easy to install while keeping the stock look. The ECU remap really made a difference. I think the bike sounds better but not overly loud (slightly angrier sewing machine, lovingly). I treated myself when I got it, but I think a decat pipe would’ve been fine as well.

I came from a 2010 with a full decat/termi setup and that was LOUD loud.

I just installed a De-cat from Power-Works-Racing out of Spain. Within 5 days!! I had the cat eliminator on my door step. The welding is a piece of craftmanship. The install was an easy process. I am very content with the sound level. Nice, heavy punches at idle rpm. Still have to take the bike for a ride.
(came with T-shirt 😀 and clamps)

I suspect the QD decat is the same (with something in the chamber to deaden the noise).

Now that looks good......why didn't Ducati do it tha way.....might have been able to fit cases without a cut out 🤔.....

Do you have a pic of the rear view?
