Want To Lose The Catalytic Converter (decat)

I really want to lose the cat on my bike. If money were of no concern I'd spend the $3000K it would take to purchase and install the Termignoni. However money is an object.

Are there any less expensive options out there that don't skimp on quality and performance?

Whenever I see a multi with the cat removed it just looks soo much cleaner. I want that. If I knew the system I bought would transfer to a new bike in a few years I'd drop the hammer on the Termignoni but I know it wont and I know I'll never recoup that investment at sale time.

I live in SC, USA. There are no inspections for noise or emissions required in my state.

very happy with Arrow Works

I installed Arrow Works 3/4 system, $1050. It ran fine with just a Fatduc. However I then installed Tuneboy and now its awesome. I chose it over the Mivv purely on styling, I just liked the shape of the Arrow. If you go with Arrow you will have to make your own stopper for the centerstand. Other options have a stopper welded on already.

I wanted the QD but couldn't afford it, I think it is the best sound / styling, just my opinion....

Unlike some other bikes, the cat serves as the primary muffler on the MTS12. So be prepared for the bike to be much louder if you simply replace the cat with a midpipe.

Find Turkish Express's DIY LV Midpipe Install thread. I'm not sure how to link to it directly for you, but anyway I followed it step-by-step and if I can do it, anyone can.

LV mid pipe

For $500 installed, my LV mid pipe with the stock exhaust is the best mod I've made. Boulder Motorsports did a reflash and it runs perfect - lighter, sounds better, looks better and my right foot doesn't roast in traffic.

Buy the LV midpipe and install yourself in about an hour or two depending on how many breaks you take :D All for under $400. Use the stock muffler. Maybe powder coat the exhaust shields black. Functional and still get the same sound.

Ok I've wondered this out loud here a few times, so why not again....

The OP is looking for a cheap solution to Decat the bike, but does not like the looks of the cat, So gutting the cat is not what he is looking for regardless that it's mighty cheap.

If I were in the same boat, I would shell out $195 for a danmoto cat off Ebay. Then I would buy whatever version of <$300 GPR silencer I fancied and weld up a link pipe or spend $50 having it made at any muffler shop....

BTW...I would absolutely use 2 GPRs stacked like a street fighters. I think it would look badass and be waaaay cheaper and not look like everyone else’s.

I have not used any Danmoto or GPR parts and can not speak to the quality. But they look pretty good and for the price I would certainly try it.

In the end I just may try 2 GPRs on my Ti-System, just cause I like the looks and think it would be different.:think:

I did the LV Decat mid pipe and the titanium slip-on. The OEM muffler with the decat is very loud, just too loud for me (and the German polizei)
Here is a clip with Db killer installed, if I want more I simply remove the Db killer http://youtu.be/SJndPiimt8s
Also did a Rexxer remap, so I'm good for €1200,-
(All the carbon is included)

That's the decat solution I've been considering. Looks good, but how does it work with the stock passenger peg?

Consider the panniers passenger pegs and HOW GOOD the reflash is ...

How GOOD the motor runs is determined by the rider ... MANY have very different opinions of WHAT is a GOOD Running Motor...
Just as some like the looks and the different sounds offered by the different Ways to go about getting rid of the UGLY boat anchor Heat sink Cat ...

A trade off is going to happen to get rid of the UGLINESS and the Weight of the cat...
You MAY have to put up with a bit more sound than what you want to...

I feel any unwanted trade off is going to be somewhat better than the UGLY and HEAVY cat...

Do lots of research and make sure you KNOW what you can expect...

Glad to see some deals out there...
Hope the price comes down even further...
Going on line to see about the full Termi with the extra ECU , Just to have a spare...

He hasn't been on since October of last year, the thread pretty much dead since last August.

Here's what he posted on the previous page in case you didn't see his response,

Yes this is exactly the type of solution I'm looking for. Thanks TiDuc

Do I have to lose bottom end torque switch a Decat

I keep seeing the loss of torque down low with a Decat . Can I avoid this with a re flash? Part of what I enjoy is the low end torque on a twin. I am going with the MIVV mid pipe and I already have a Termi shorty carbon can

If you keep seeing it is because it just might be true.....if the headers/exhaust are changed, there's a good chance that it will effect the bike's fueling. the MIVV has a DB killer that has been reported (dyno tested) to reduce the bike's power. whether or not it was true and accurate data is another thing. Most suggest addressing the fueling (via a re-mapped ECU) when changing out the stock exhaust to an aftermarket one to counter exactly what you mention (a change in power/fueling due to).

let's keep it to one thread. ;)

Just wanted to let y'all know that we now have limited quantities of the Arrow De-Cat midpipe in stock. This unit is identical to the LV ones which is no longer being produced. These are exclusive for us at this time so please let us know if you would like to get one. Will fit to stock headers and slipons. Will fit any aftermarket slipon as well. Will accommodate the center stand and has the resonance chamber unlike all the other options out there.

Looks like the possible way to go

Hi, was wondering about going this route. I really like the stock pipes though and would like to keep them there. just wanted more sound from the motor to come through.

what other items would there be to consider if purchasing the arrow mid-pipe?

costs are a factor as well ofcourse.
going to be doing as much of this myself.

but can it be used with the stock pipe and not have to remap?

mid-pipe is around $500.

Exhaust flapper needs to be removed, but are the instructions there to describe what to do?

Center stand bumper included?

ECU reflash... this is my big question, is there a map created for this type of configuration? If so, how do you get it reflashed if you do not have tuneboy, etc.?

Will any dealer just do it if you bring them the updated map? or are there places you can just send out the ECU and have them do it?

thanks,

ant.

Arrow Mid Pipe

I was talking to the folks at Motovation about the Arrow mid pipe, they say it is a similar design as the LV midpipe which also has a small resonance chamber. On their website they do have a good comparison video of the Stock exhaust (with CAT) vs a LV Midpipe + Termi Shorty.

Certainly it is louder than stock, but they measured the Db on the video and it was only about 1 Db louder. So I also am very interested in this Arrow midpipe, I want to keep my termi shorty more just for looks as it does suit well the PP model (except for the silver heat sheild, that thing is history and a new carbon fibre heat sheild is on its way from Greece). Just holding off on pulling the Arrow midpipe trigger to see if anyone posts a video of it installed.

I'm not worried about a ECU remap as I have Tuneboy and can drop in some mid pipe trim files in a few minutes.
