The corse arm is 515mm
The streetfighter arm is 535mm

So its WAY longer.

I say go for it. I've wanted to do this little project since the SF came out. I've done the numbers and could make the wheelbase about 1430mm-1440mm. The bike would be awesome stable and turn in very nice. Most importantly, would drive out of corner like a raped ape!

 

What is the stocker length? I thought shorter wheelbases turned in quicker? I understand longer offering more stability but wouldn't it be easier to turn in a bike with a shorter wheelbase?

I'm no engineer, I'll go back to sniffing paint fumes...lol

 

DOH! No fumes Arty. Wheelbase has a direct relation to lean angle versus turn radius. It doesn't mean it will turn in quicker. The longer wheelbase will allow a better drive with the right settings.

 

Ok cool... by drive you mean it'll get the power down to the ground better with a longer wheelbase without as much wheelspin?

 

Correct.....The stock unit is approximately 505mm at it's longest, however the SF unit is 535 at it's longest.

If you place it optimally, you'll be around the 520-525mm mark.

 

How would you achieve this optimal length on this swingarm?

 

Based on the swingarm eccentric location.

I should say now, the ONLY way to acheive said wheelbase is with lesser offset triples and some basic fairing/rad mods.

 

You could try it if you shorten the front with an offset triple...

 

Has anyone confirmed it will fit an 848??

I would love to try it on my race bike.

Did you read what was written above? The swing arm is too long for roadracing. You wouldn't be able to get the optimal swing arm length with the street fighter arm. The stock arm can be slightly modified to regain a few mm, which is pretty damn close to the corse length, basically off by 10mm. The streetfighter arm is too long by 10mm. So if you want a slower steering bike, be my guest, but it won't gain you anything my opinion.

Incidentally, the 848 and 1198 are the same bike, so when we talk 1198, its really the same data as a 848.

 

It may or may not be optimal for some people.

I want to know if it will fit on the bike.

 

I'm currently undertaking this project. There's about 1.50 lbs weight gain for the Streetfighter Swingarm, and you can't go too far forward with the eccentric without needing to work the brake bracket, and deal with tire rub issues.

Also an EK ThreeD 520 chain, since I will need a longer chain than my DID ERV3. Nice chain,

However, most of the MotoGP bikes have a longer swingarm, and 1450mm wheelbase is most popular except for the last two years Honda has shortened it a little bit. The wheelbase will be about 1450 depending on how the chain links and sprockets work out.

I may need a new rear brake line. More later.

 

I guess I now know why my Streetfighter S doesn't turn in anything like my 1098R. Has anyone here fitted a shorter superbike swingarm to the Streetfighter?

 

There's an interference issue right now with the Leo Vince exhaust #2 cylinder downtube, so nothing further until I can figure out how to solve that. It's close, but not needs more than say adding a spacer to the exhaust/frame attach point.

The swingarms have the identical rear casting and center formed sheetmetal sections, but the forward castings are what's different. This causes the interference shown in the pictures.
