Hi Guys, I have been told there is no more Shell Advance 15W-50 4T 100% Synthetic oil for sale in Australia.
I called the distributor and they confirmed this. I have a Ducati 1000ss DS 2003 model. What do you suggest is the best oil I can purchase for her in Aus.? Thanks

Amsoil or Mobile-1? I've seen the oil threads before and you're probably not going to get a single consensus. One of the last oil shootouts I read in a magazine that did pretty extensive analysis showed Amsoil full synthetic racing oil to be quite good. I change the oil in my bikes every spring and never put more than 5k miles on any bike in a year. If I'm doing a track day I'll change the oil just prior and right after. Could be total overkill but I don't really worry about it.

Motul 7100 15w-50, or their 300v for track.
Can confirm you can't go wrong with Motul. High quality at a much better price point than the Shell. I ditched the shell immediately and stuck with Motul.

Motorex seems to be gathering a much bigger rep down here. Not used it yet but it exceeds all the specs you need.

We are spoiled for choice and quality these days, no one brand within the required spec is going to grenade your engine.

Amsoil 15-50 metric
After 36000 miles at absolute abuse, over reving, banging gears without the clutch up & down plus total neglect I sent a oil sample of to test when I tore that motor down to the bare cases for big bore machine work.

The results came back with no metals, bronze, aluminum, iron out of normal spec's There was one chunk of 3rd gear shift dog but I know where & how that showed up.

It's called blip the throttle going from 2nd to 3rd doing a WFO wheelie & miss it INSTANT REV LIMITER & the front crashing to earth kinda hard for my taste.

But hey that's what salvage title beater bikes are for.........testing the design limits of Italian parts & engennering.

It passed my rigorous testing protocol..... use the Amsoil

Cheers Red1000ss,

I use Motorex 'Top Speed' FS 15w50 in my V4 multi (y)

Ducati 'suggests' Shell Ultra 15w50 FS in the owners manual, but Motorex Top Speed 15w50 is what my Ducati dealership workshop uses come official warranty scheduled service time, unless an owner specifies a higher FS grade for track use or racing.

I've used it since 2017 in a KTM1290 and now the 21 Ducati, with no oil consumption issues. It is good for more than the 7.5k km interval I choose to change it at.

He did say in Oz, and we don’t get amsoil here (easily)

are they still doing the sx 4T. Semi or getting rid of the advance name?
I ran a full synth once as I worked at shell and got it cheap, otherwise my SS only used the semi.

all shops recommend what ever brand they have a ‘deal’ with.. it’s the way it works.

use anything.. just change it regularly.

Hi PG,

It's back on the shelf again anyway but yes there are lots of oils that meet the specs, nothing special about Shell Advance.......

Been running Golden Spectro in my street, and race, bikes, since 1985. No problems, whatsoever.

Current Duc, a 2002 750 SS, has lived on it since new. So far, so good. (y)
