I know it's not a fair comparison, but has anyone here ridden a KTM 1290 Super Duke R yet? If you have, I'm curious what your thoughts were. Thanks!

They're similar, but to me a more accurate comparison would be the Ducati 1098 Streetfighter IMHO.

The 1100 SP HYM has taller suspension, seat height, bars etc. The SD and the 1098 SF both share similar seat heights, riding position egos and ground clearance while the SP HYM is more upright and taller all around. Not to mention, the 1100 is an air cooled motor too. While the 1100 SP HYM and SD do both have similar riding intentions at heart, I still don't consider them to be in the same class like I do the 1098 SF. I think of the SD as being a streetfighter while the SP is more of an over-sized street supermoto.

Look up and compare all three models on Cycle-Ergo and you'll see what I mean. Motorcycle Ergonomics

Apparently the next SMT is built off the 1290 Superduke base, so it's going to be interesting to see it without the camouflage. It's getting pretty far away from its "SM" roots - I wonder if there's going to be a successor to the 990 SMR and if so, what platform they're going to use for it.

Yes, I agree that a better comparison would be to a street fighter. I love the looks of the Super Duke, the stealthy black one with the orange frame! I can't wait to ride one, nearly every review says the ergos/riding position is perfect and very comfortable.

I have ridden a 1290 Superduke. I can’t think of a single downside compared to an air cooled Hyper other than maybe the cost of ownership. The 1290 is very fast, very smooth and refined, and quite comfortable. The amount of acceleration available at 70 mph is stunning. I do think the Hyper might give it fits on a tight track or road though so if that’s what you are after the 1290 would be over-kill.

The interesting thing is, I rode a 690 Duke as well and had more fun on that bike. I am very anxious to try a 390.
