Hi gents,

Still looking for my first hyper after originally finding an EVO SP and the deal falling through.

Anyway the EVO SP's are like rocking horse shit and as such I'm finding lots of 2008/09 1100 and 1100s

Has anybody had the chance to ride them back to back and also against the newer evo models (even non sp)

So more specifically, is the 1100s definitely much better than the non s in terms of handling etc due to the ohlins?

And how does the winner of that compare to the newer evo versions? I mean isn't an older 1100s going to be better than a newer standard evo non sp version or is that wrong?

I've only test ridden a standard EVO which was at the dealers so have no experience of the older 1100's or newer SP's so would be good to know what I'm aiming for.

Cheers gents

Evo so 2012 hyper 1100 hands down. And comes with bigger intercooler too. Handles way better. Is lighter. Brakes better. Is faster slightly, and so much prettier. I’ve had mine for five years and Have done most bolt
On motor work. I would never sell it. I’m even contemplating getting another rolling chassis and dropping a 1198 motor in it.

Cams, pistons, ported, light flywheel, nothing crazy . I made it into a S except the forks . I have adjustable pegs and still scrape the side of my boot's. I never jacked up the rod either (I think it 's on 3 threads) . I'm happy how it handles I can't ride it to it's full potential, but I sure try .

I've had Sport motorcycles all my life (RRs). I had a once a Brutale and didn't like the fact they dont have fairing, the rest of the motorcycle is pretty much as a Sport one with a more up stand seating position.

This motorcycle (SP), it is taller, it has torque, but it is very safe, very easy to drive and it is much more enjoyable than other lower models. I really do not agarre your opinion, there is no point to compare the suspensions for example,

You will get used to the height driving. But you are below 1.70m can be tricky to ride between traffic lights

I rode and EVO SP and it was incredible but scared the piss out of me The power, height and brakes (MY GOD) gave me the feeling I'd kill myself on it within a month.

Then I rode a base model and although not nearly as exciting I felt like I could dominate it more and ride it harder because chances are unless you are an accomplished professional you'd probably have more fun on a slower and more forgiving bike. Depends on what you want to do with it.

I have the 1100s and am happy as could be! The sp was never an option for me cause of the height, i think it looks to much like a dirtbike and lost the original idea of the hypermotard which was a mix between a sportsbike and a supermotard. I put an MWR filter, a fullsystem and had it mapped which gave me 90+hp and 100nm(dont know how much that is in ft/lb) at the rear wheel....i am scared of twisting full throttle in the first couple of gears, and third gear will lift the wheel on shear power at times. It all depends on what you want but those uppgrades i did, didnt cost me that much, my bike already had the termi twin underseat exhaust i just had to get the decat to make it a full system and i certainly get more power and tourque then a stock sp...

hyper s models are good as well..and are bulletproof! i spank all the sp models on the track..but i do have thousands into motor and weight loss...and my rear wheel hp is close to 107 and after some more headwork should be 110 to 113...i hope... and in the 330 lb weight range as well...but 08 s models have no problem geting into 87 hp range with exhaust, pods, fuel module, also suspension has alot to do with speed at the track...and also skill as well:D

Evo vs. Non Evo, I was looking for an 08 or 09S. I had ridden the standard 1100 a few years ago, but knew I'd be happier with an S model. Then I started researching. The Evo's lose about 13 lbs. Then add in another 2 lbs for the wheels and a larger oil cooler on the SP plus the suspension upgrades and I was sold on an SP. No I do not yet push the bikes to the limits, but it's nice to know the limit is a little further out there. Plus the SP is a sexy beast.

The conundrum for me was I could have bought a highly upgraded (termis, ecu, open clutch, etc) 08 model with less miles for about a grand less than I got my EVO SP for. But upgrading is half the fun. :)

I wasn't really considering a non S if I'm honest but you know what it's like, Ducati update a model to an evo and then evo SP so im just trying to gauge what the older S is like.

I'll never really track the hyper I doubt, I have track bikes for that as that's what I prefer (well so far it is)

Again it's just that Evo sp's either didn't sell well or nobody wants to sell them 2nd hand as I can hardly find any.

There's some good looking 1100S's about as there are non S models but I guess ultimately I'd prefer to have the ohlins and lighter wheels.

No amount of Internet searching can give me a comparison between a new evo and old S unfortunately :)

But if there's hardly anything in it then I guess the older S is the way to go purely for the wheels etc

I think for questions like this its important to ask yourself (and be honest) how good a rider are you and how are you going to use the bike. I am sure the S model handles a bit better and the EVO SP makes more torque/power but unless you are riding balls out on a track and you are a good enough rider to be able to utilize the handling and torque, does it matter? I know I am not, but everyone is different.

i had a standard 1100 2009 hyper with nothing done to it and now i have an evo sp corse and the difference in torgue is substancial. the comfort is better, the height has inrease and the handeling is better. i wouls say a better bike by far for what i need it for. When i had the 1100 i wished that i had have bought the 1100s. Now that i have the evo sp, i have no regrets.

If I recall correctly, the 1100 EVO (SP) lost 0.2Nm of torque compared to the 1100(S). They do have a lighter flywheel, which might give you the feeling that it's more torquey. But that's a mod you can do to the 1100 for a couple of bucks( $150 or so? ). Getting new front end springs and oil ($120) will make handling of the 1100 much better.

The EVO SP does have 5 more HP and sits taller due to longer suspension travel.
