Hello my fellow Ducatisti,

Please help me decide! I have an opportunity to buy a 2016 Panigale R or a 2019 Panigale V4 Speciale.
Both have low mileage and are in pristine condition. If I had the $$ I would get them both.

Lets keep it simple, If you had to pick one what would it be?

He is a smarter man than me. May have to ask him this question. I would have to flip a coin and commit myself to abide by it to choose between these two bikes. If forced, I'd probably end up getting the V4 Speciale telling myself it's newer/modern is a plus, then immediately regret it and always look at the R like the one that got away. Ok.. ya.. the R, get the R.

Somewhat biased here , I have owned a Speciale since new and I have not rode one of the big twins. Saying that , I love my Speciale , it is well behaved at slow speeds but will still cook you in stop and go traffic. Personally if the Speciale has all the extras it came with from new that is what I would choose. To me I can’t resist the Tricolore.

Many thanks for your responses.

Maybe it is a toss of a coin as ScroogeMcDuc suggests.
But what about the Speciale's limited edition numbered series vs. the R's exclusive racebred components? Which makes the bike more unique in your opinion? BTW, the 2016 R is not a numbered series.

I'd get an R... in a heartbeat.

Not that there is anything wrong with the Speciale'... other than the somewhat "fat gut" that the v4's have, they are amazing machines. But it's essentially an S with a paint job. The R is what you get when you turn a bunch of engineers loose with the instruction to build something that bumps up against the ceiling imposed by the homologation rulebook.

Additionally, from a historical standpoint, it's the last in a long line of V2 R's.
