Well, I have spent hundreds of hours and almost an equal in money buying obd2 Bluetooth adapters and cables etc trying to get some sort of home diagnostics going without any luck.
I see there are a few pc based software offerings however I am going on a 3-week touring holiday and want to take an android tablet with me to have as a tool should I develop a problem.

Scan MX5 is no longer available or I can seem to find the app anyway

TuneECU hasn't been successful due to cables I assume

Is there a reasonably priced handheld scan tool available that works?

I am using a 5 AM ECU

Thanks, guys and gals

I use tuneecu as well as guzzi diag both are free and use mostly the same cables. Tuneecu needs android to work as far as I know on a Ducati. Do not expect easy on either if you are not computer savvy. Outside of that expect to pay $$$ and your results may not be much better.

I also have technoresearch VDST, Centurian and Socio. Socio is mostly a high dollar rabbit hole that works just like the ducati DDS (which was bad) and costs thousands. VDST may nnot work on your model and is no longer supported (IIRC) as it is a XP program. Centurian is my go to for diag and shutting off service indicators on bikes it works on. Quick, easy and well made. You might see if they have one for just your model and if it is cheap enough for you. I am looking into Texa right now for another $2000-3000 so I do not know how well it works but I do not think they have a home mechanic version.

Based on price I like the tuneecu/guzzi diag (have not tried scan MX5 yet)
Based on ease of use and lack of connectivity issues technoresearch Centurion.

guzzidiag or the iawdiag clone is easy and uses the lonelec cable. should cost you about $30 total. not sure if you can get it on a tablet, but really it'll need a usb connector.

i had a socio 300 that i ditched because it won't do latest service lights - scramblers, etc. i bought it from technoresearch in the usa and they were totally unhelpful with any info about it being updated, as was tecnomotor in italy who make it. i finally got a response to an email from them after i've dropped 4k on a texa navigator txb. but still no answer as to if/when it was going to be updated. i ended up giving it to nick at valley desmo in la.

the vdsts was a good tool, i liked that.

for a 5am guzzidiag is all you need. but the tablet application may be a concern for you.

I tried to use TuneECU on my 5AW ecu for my 2004 ST3. I pushed connect on the the TuneECU program and it instantly made my ecu freak. I can only assume that it was a ground issue, and I fried my DP Race ECU. so a new re flash ecu is on the way. Now I am afraid to touch my bike with anything else other than the Centurion Pro. It works with my old laptop Windows 7 too.

What happened to Scan M5x? I can understand if the developer stopped supporting it, but why remove it from the store? That was my go-to for resetting the service indicator. Guess I'll have to migrate to IAWdiag and get the Lonelec cable.

Mmmm 3 days later from my post in this thread and 10 days later from the thread I linked to in my previous post.

Have you tried the suggestions?

I can see that you were on the forum yesterday so obviously to me that you are alive or someone with access to your computer has an interest in Ducatis!

#9 ·
OK - this 234ValveDucati dude was on the forum today according to the user profile.
Obviously does not give a F!

WOFT IMO and is on my 2 strike list. I seriously hope you do not need assistance cos it aint gonna come from me.
I will get over my disappointment with time wasters one day. There is quite a list of DGAF posters.

No more posts here as that is part of my "recovery programme" to not let time wasters get the better of me.

Punch,
My apologies to you and the Ducati MS community. I am not wanting to waste anyone's time on here and I really do give a F!

Not sure why I did not see the March 4th response from you, which answered everything I was looking for Thanks!

Great - report back and we will help.

On the earth/ground question, it is important that the ECU and other components have the same earth/ground/battery negative.

This is because all sensors that the ECU uses are referenced to battery negative.
If the reference is off due to bad connection, then the eCU will sense a different and incorrect voltage.

As I wrote in one of the posts, all is not lost - well at the moment until you do the tests and in particular with the centre pin of the diagnostic port connected to battery negative either via the cable you are using for the software or direct to battery negative.

See post #11

The key to forums is taking advice and reporting back for the benefit of yourself and others who may have the same issue.

So have you tried any of the advice I and others provided?

I have just got a cable and reader from Lonetec
https://www.lonelec.co.uk/Car-Diagnostic-Code-Readers/Bluetooth-OBD2-ELM327-Interface-V1.5

https://www.lonelec.co.uk/Motorbike...ar-OBD2-Adaptors/OBD2-Motorbike-Adaptors/Guzzi-Ducati-Aprilia-3pin-OBD2-Adaptor

and downloaded Scan M5x to my Android phone from here:

https://cloudapks.com/download/1170897/33/

The phone and reader paired easily but getting the app and reader to see each other was less easy.
Looks interesting, I'll have to get my mum to send them to me ;-)

If I can ever figure out a retirement plan, this is one of the itches I'd like to scratch. Although I think I read somewhere that Euro5 is going to require OBDII on motorcycles?

So every so often I will search the interwebs for an 'affordable' scan tool that can reset the annual maintenance light
on my XDiavel, but until now, all I have seen is the (expensive) Motorscan 6050.

I came across the OBDPROG Moto 100 EU version recently while yet again searching for
a 'new' scan tool that supports Ducati's DVT (Bosh ECU) bikes. It is about half ($500USD) the
cost of the Motorscan 6050 and claims to be able to reset the annual maintenace light. I'm
just wondering if anyone else may have tried it and whether it does in fact work. I did contact
the OBDPROG manufacturer and they indicated that the XDiavel is supported, but no details
were given in their response.

Thanks for any insight,

T.

Hi
I’m interested in the device myself, thought I’d try and get some info on the device from this forum. There’s a YouTuber who has reviewed the device and it looks good. I’ve seen it as cheap as £355 on eBay uk, Currently they all seem to be Chinese sellers with UK stocks. What’s interesting for me is it includes the Multistrada 950 2017 model where other devices don’t unless you want to spend some serious money. Sorry I don’t know any more then yourself but hopeful someone will have a bit more info

I got some info from a guy on a Ducti XDiavel facebook group that I am in.
He says that the iScan works and appears that the Moto 100 uses the same
s/w interface.

I just purchased an OBDSTAR iScan tool, and while it was a little more expensive than I'd have liked (about $400, plus tax) it definitely works. I posted about it elsewhere, but be aware that the tool does not come ready to use. One must create an account and then "update" the tool before it's useful. But the update is free.

OBDSTAR iSCAN For DUCATI Motorcycle Fault Code Reader Scanner Diagnostic Tool. I see these on eBay for $400-$500. Made in China. I offered maybe 50 different sellers an offer of $250. I won't go over $300. But anyone familiar with these?? They come with all the adapters etc etc. I'm nervous buying Chinese made diagnostic tools. No offense

#27 ·
I also have the OBDStar iScan device purchased through AliExpress. It comes with the Euro4/OBD cable, so I needed to buy a Euro 5/OBD cable. It was a few bucks on eBay. The device is great in that I can reset all services, plus monitor/record active data, and run the active tests on fans, fuel pump, coils, injectors, QS, etc. It’s the closest you can get to the actual Ducati IDS functionality, EXCEPT ECU flashing/tuning.

I have a 2014 Hypermotard SP and in the compatibility chart it says it works for this model. I can't seem to find everything it does and everything it doesn't do though. I'd like to be able to disable the exhaust flapper and O2 sensors as well as clear the Desmo Reset. Has anyone here used this on a Marelli 7SM ECU bike?

I bought one tonight, eBay - OBDSTAR iScan for DUCATI Motorcycle OBD2 Diagnostic Scan Tool IMMO Progarmming | eBay, $394.00 USD, ships from USA. The user interface and included hardware was enough for me to justify the dosh. I previously had bought cables, connectors and software disc for the JPDiag, GuzziDiag, whateverDIAG and never got it figured out enough to work. I'm sure that it would have done everything and more than what "we" all needed it to do (if you could figure it out) but it wasn't what I would call - user friendly. Hand me a gun (any gun) and I'll show you how to use it within 30 seconds of holding it. Send me a link to a download with vague instruction, ask me to spark up the internet, connect my $2.5k notebook to a motorbike, search within it's bowels to chase drivers and com ports, only to be denied because my tools are too current, then left in my garage to play IT doctor while my bike sits quivering on the stands... well, it's not for me - I'm just not that smart, I guess.

So, anyway... I'm anxious to see how this little device works.

+1 on the OBDStar Iscan for Ducati. I ordered one and it arrived in less than 10 days from mainland China. The tool connects and starts COMS with the bike with no issue. So far I’m happy with it but I’m still learning how to use it.

There is always springing for the 3-5K dollar TEXA interface. TEXA actually wrote the software for Ducati. It is a pro level tool and of course they want a pro level price for it. Snap-on also makes a diagnostic tool as well.

So to report back, I purchased the OBDPROG Moto 100 EU version and it DOES WORK
to reset the annual maintenance light on my 2016 XDiavel (1262 w/DVT)

Now, what I think would be really nice if I could get the tool to do this - is to add an external
microphone and run a Hz recording app so that I could correctly tension my timing belts
so that the high-dollar Texa tool would not be necessary... The Moto 100 runs Android
just like a smart phone, so one would think that this would be easy enough job for
'them' to add... I guess I'll try to contact the mfg and see where this suggestion leads...

No need for a texa for that. Use a guitar tuner app on your phone or tablet and turn off fluorescent lightning (60hz messing up readings).
