Cortech Super 2.0 tail bag....can't figure out how to mount it

I bought a Cortech Super 2.0 tail bag thinking it would be the perfect size tail bag for my occasional use. I dislike the look of a standard tail bag and had hoped to only use a tank bag for longer trips. When I got it home I realized it came with mounting straps that are far too long to use easily with the MTS. I ordered some new 3/4" webbing and fastex buckles thinking I could rig something up and mount it to my Bang MFG rack, but I cannot find an easy way to get this thing on there in a way that would be reliable.

Anyone have one mounted and care to share a pic of what you did? I'm close to returning it, but I can't find anything I like as well to replace it.

Thanks

I've got the same questions...I was considering an Axio Tail bag and some type of luggage plate, but not sure if there is a clean way to mount.

Biggzif, would you mind posting up a pic of the cortech on top of your rack, even though it's not yet mounted? I'm curious to see how it looks on the multi as I was considering that model as well.

Here's how I fastened my axio

I have an Axio CF tailbag, and just routed the straps underneath the pillon seat. This works fine to mount it, but I found out that I don't really like hard tailbags, so it's back in the shipping box after virually no use at all.

I have the older Cortech tail bag, perhaps the mounting straps have changed. Mine has bungee cord hooks on the front (attach to sub frame area) and adjustable straps and loops that attach to the license plate bracket and possibly the area forward of the subframe. I like your idea of using the web netting though. I place my bag on the passenger seat. Sorry if this isn't very helpful.

This newer version has no bungees. They give you 4 straps that each have a Rock Lockster 38mm male fastex buckle on one end and a sewn loop on the other end. You're supposed to make a slip knot with the loop end which would go around something on the bike and then snap the male fastex into the female buckles on the bag. The straps are pretty long for mounting to the MTS unless you want straps hanging everywhere.

Here's a pic of the bag just sitting on the Dynamic rack. I'm thinking of maybe just punching 4 holes in the bottom of the bag, put a piece of lexan in as a solid floor and bolt it to the rack or use Dzus fasteners.

if you haven't watched this video, do so....it may give you some ideas as to how to install your bag.

hope this helps!

Look at my post on page 201 of what did you do on your MTS today. I took a piece of 1/4 inch plexi cut it to shape of the dynamic rack bolted it on to the rack cut slots in it for the bag straps. So strap the bag to the plate, bolt the plate to the rack. poor pics, but works well

Maybe you also want to check out the tunnel bag from Saddlemen, very well built, I don't have one but I had the chance to see one on a cruiser

I had an Ogio tail bag that had similar straps that used I with my old first-gen Multi. I put small carabiners through each of the loops, hooked each one through a hole roughly in the middle of the rack, fed the straps under the rack diagonally then back out through holes near each corner. The clips snapped in and I would then cinch each one tight.

Worked a treat.

Sorry I thought I had already posted these photos. The cortech bag works fine and is very nice. It should cost a lot more than what its priced at. I love cortech for their quality and very reasonable prices.

I have the Ducati trunk so this aids in mounting the Cortech bag due to more strapping points, so yours may be different if you don't have the trunk. The creative thing I had to do with the straps is have the strap attached to the left side of the rack go to the right side of the bag as pictured.

Thanks gg48gg -

I see the Cortech Super 2.0 Tail Bag advertised on different sites around the internet in two versions -
14L version SKU 8230-0405-14
24L version SKU 8230-0405-24

I did a search on the different SKUs and both of the items come up on multiple vendor sites along with different prices and dimensions.

The versions are similar but with distinct differences -

14L with no side pocket and apparently no expansion zippers.

It might be an error as you say because indeed Cortechperformance do not list the 14L (maybe that one version is discontinued, or is a knockoff), so I emailed Cortech to highlight this inconsistency and to ask if there are actually two different sizes. if not they need to know that the product is being misrepresented. I'll report back when/if I get an answer.

Of course, I now realize I have answered my own question. The bag in Bigziffs photos has the side pockets so must be the 24L.

I think the 14L is slightly more compact overall.... If it actually exists!
I'm actually leaning toward the smaller one now, as I already have a ruddy great GIVI for when I need to bring the kitchen sink with me.
And I only have the aircooled Multi anyway so I'm not worthy of cheese on me burger.

Update: response from Cortech -

Bill,

Thank you for contacting us. Yes, the bag is offered in a 14L version and 24L version. Hope this helps!

Ride safe,

By the way, I mounted mine originally like biggziff has it, and you can see that in my pics as well: Handle and opening facing front.

What I realized later is that it is meant to be mounted the other way, with the handle facing back. This is because A) the reflective material faces backwards to be visible by cars behind you, and B) so that you can get in and out of the bag while standing behind the bike.

You can mount it any way you like though.

biggziff,

Not sure if you've tried this... At first glance it appeared that the straps were too long to work, however after a bit of head scratching I found a good way to attach the bag. Not quite intuitive but it works well.

The trick is to go the opposite ways with the strap to add length to the straps. Right strap to left side of bag, left strap to right side of bag. Picture illustrates what I mean...

Also, on the rack I use the included bag base piece. On the pillion seat, I un-velcro that piece since it's not needed.

Bag looks good Duc_Audi! Nice bike too!

Does that bag require a specific rack? What rack do you have? And can you elaborate on how it attaches on the Multi?

The fit and finish on the Bags Connection bags seems top notch. They always seem to have a great overall shape.

The only problem with the bags connection bags, for me, is that the cost/markup seems so high. I've got a friend with a BC tank bag that's faded from the sun after about a year, so I don't know that the "get what you pay for" saying fits, but maybe so. I hear people love them, and the fit seems great, but dang! The price!

Regardless, the bag looks awesome and I think it's a good choice for someone not so frugal as I.

Edit. Nice stand too!!!!!! Is that the MotoMFG?

Gg,

It's on an altrider rack. It actually fits like it was made for it
Took the straps and went on the sides for the right front, under the rack to the left rear and and the right rear to the left front
Fits absolutely secure and follows the contours well
My wife rides as a 2up and she feels much more comfortable with it on the back

The inside liner is fully waterproof and when I get caught in the rain, I take all electronics, wallets and anything that needs o stay dry and through it in there.

Quality seems top notch and deigned for multiple uses.

The motomfg stand is also worked out very well

Took a little fine tuning but now that it is all set up, if anyone needs the measurements, let me know. Like the use of the safety pin so it never slides out and the ease I can push it to the storage area so I can get the car in the garage in front of it

mounting Cortech tail pack

I just bought the Cortech Super 2.0 tail pack for my PP. I mounted it to the rear seat. I don't carry passengers so I just cut the straps to the right length and sewed on the clips, took off the rear seat and put the straps on underneath the seat. I use the pad they include to go between the bag and the seat. Very clean looking. I'll post pictures tomorrow. I use the bag to carry my Autocom system with Kenwood radio. I use the Autocom to listen to music and wire the radar detector through. The bag works perfect and is a clean mount. But like I said I don't use the back seat for passengers.

If it is any consolation your grief is my relief. I really wanted a smaller tail bag to replace the big volume DP hard case and the interest in the Cortech 2.0 was very compelling. However because of your problem, I looked at almost every tailbag out there to avoid fitment issues. I settled on the Moose Racing tail rack bag. It is quite small but it expands, comes with a rain cover, is very well made, and fits on the top case rack nicely.

strapping young bags

Hey BigZiff, this is how the Cortech 2.0 (14L) tailbag straps to the Bang-Fab (aka Dynamic) rack on the air cooled bike.

Front straps shortened to about 1.5"

Rear straps loosened almost all the way, then crossed over.

Thanks much..I'm going to play around with it some more later today. I need something on there when I'm not running the side cases. I'm getting tired of stuffing things inside my jacket! :)

photo's as promised

So this is how I attached the bag to my passenger seat/URL[/URL[/URL[/URL

With a little ingenuity you can probably mount this pack on just about any rack or back of a bike. If nothing else you could buy some black bungy cords and sew them to the bottom of pack and you would have an attachment system just like the previous edition of this product that could be easily attached and unattached to just about anything. I've used the previous model for over 15 years now on several bikes.
