Mark , Dont you mean the sprocket ? The cover comes off fine but the 15t will not slide past the slave but the 14t will go on easy enough with the slave still in place.
I did actually mean the cover Alan. Mine comes off ok for routine maintenance, but I then can't get it back on again without slackening the slave.
The sprocket angle did cross my mind, but I couldn't remember if it was an issue or not so I didn't say.
You have confirmed it. Thanks.

Mark , is that the same for your 4s , as I have never had that problem with either the '02or now the '05 I have ?

Just on the 4 with the OEM plastic cover, as there's a lip that sits underneath the slave cyl.
I have an aftermarket cover on the 4s, and that comes off and goes back on ok without having to slacken off the slave.

Any reason you could not cut the lip off ?

That's the first thing I've ever had to disagree with you about Larry. In my humble opinion the stock 15/43 on the ST4 is extremely lumpy around town, and far from the sweet spot in the twisties.
15/43 is fabulous on my ST4s btw, up from the standard 15/38.

Trader, I didn't have to drop 2 links when I put a 14 toother on my ST4, but you may have to if it's an old chain and has stretched a little.
I very much look forward to reading about how you get on with it. I think you'll like it very much.
+1.. I agree with Mark.. Mine was very jerky about town, 14 on the front for me with no need to change chain..
