996 forks in an ST4 - will they fit ?

I have an option of either getting my tired 27000 mile standard 2001 ST forks rebuilt, or a set of nearly new nitrided 996 forks for roughly the same money. The problem is, I dont know whether the 996 items will fit. Does anybody know ?
The main problems I can see are -
1} Will the 996 fork tops fit through the ST handlebars ?
2} Is brake caliper spacing likely to be an issue ?
Any thoughts gentlemen ?

Right, after having read those links, it looks like the more cost effective solution will be to have the original ST forks rebuilt. I dont want to spend loads over the top to have the 996 forks made to fit the ST yokes, and even when that is done, I still wouldn't have a spring fitted, and a re-valve, to suit my weight and riding style.
