Why wouldnt the dealer do the upmap when it is provided with the exhaust? Was the exhaust bought outside of the dealer?
I bought my full exhaust online because it was a little cheaper, they had it in stock, and I got money back to use towards other accessories. The exhaust was delivered to my house I put it on then took it to the dealer local to me and paid them for a half hour of shop time to install the upmap. However Ducati puts the fear of god into these dealers apparently. I had one dealer flat out tell me no and then my normal dealer did it after arguing with them for a few days and then jumping through all those hoops. Something about crazy high fines if the bike is caught on road with the exhaust.

Do you live in California? My dealership in a less environmentally conscious state didn't take any pictures or have me sign anything. Just installed it with the exhaust.

I live in central Ohio so no inspections or anything else over here. Something to do with a bulletin that states the dealers can be fined by Ducati if they are found to be installing race only exhaust on street bikes.

There was a email floating around from someone at Ducati NA that had the specifics that I had found one time but cant seem to find it now.

All I can find now is what I will quote below.
On Monday, Feb 22nd 2021 Ducati issued "After Sales Bulletin" AS-21-004. This particular bulletin related to EPA Violations, Anti-Tampering policies, CARB emissions, etc.

Installation Info:
  • Whoever installs this exhaust and updates the bikes map is tagged internally on the records of the bike.
  • That dealer/tech is then is liable for any future issues that may arise from federal EPA inspection/violations.
  • Ducati will only authorize installation on motorcycles registered/titled for non-road use.
  • How do you accomplish this? Not easy. Think a "track-ready" bike, but much more involved. The service rep rattled of a whole list of things that must be submitted to Ducati, including removal of mirrors, physically disconnecting lights, picture evidence of those, proof of registration as a non-road vehicle, trailering the bike (NOT riding it) to & from the dealer, on and on and on. He said it's a huge pain.
  • Going forward, any time that bike is "hooked up" at an authorized service center, the records/logs/whatever will show these records, show who installed the exhaust & updated the map, etc.
So if the dealer is a by the book dealer its going to be a pita. If the dealer is not really following service bulletins to closely its probably a super easy thing to get done.

Oh well, too late for me now, money paid.....but system not despatched yet...... I was looking for better fuel economy and a better sound without being really noisy...... but laws are laws, I know.

I might be lucky but if I run into a brick wall when my full system turns up, I'll just use the baffles/dB killers and let the stock ecu do it's thing.....(worked ok with the KTM1290's when decatted)...

So that's probably why my dealer's parts people were talking the full system down by saying nil stock, 6 months backorder, made to order only, high price etc etc..... big crackdown from Ducati Aus I assume,....... I don't want to present a track ready bike on a trailer just for photo's just to pass their legal scrutineering test, then reassemble, so, since I made my decision before reading about these drama's (and they were in the back of my mind anyway), I'll just have to be happy with the sound and hope it works well enough with out the map.........

It also occurred to me that maybe the EVO map deletes some road functions like traffic indicators, cornering lights, road settings etc etc, since they are not used on race tracks........ hopefully I get my $3.4k value out of the mod without the upmap ......

It sucks that the marketing press launch bikes on U-tube had these full systems installed and retained their road lighting (traffic signals, brake lights etc) ....... so it's ok for Ducati to use the full Akra's to market their bikes on public roads, but it's not ok for customers to do the same after seeing how great they look and sound and go......

So now I play the waiting game.......

Every single feature works with the EVO upmap, just the fuelling and ignition are adjusted to suit the better flow of the smaller decat and slip on

Dave, another option is this guy. I used him back when I had my Hyper, and his map cleaned up the surging and popping off throttle. Had the full termi race exhaust on it.

Oh Dave , also it’s Jono here with the Sport Multi from DOCQ [emoji3]

Cheers mate...... Ahhh, that's the guy I got the quote from for the QD slipon (which fell through as all stock was going to America). Good to know he does a good job and the Rexer might be the way out for me if Ducati has clamped down on their dealers here in Aus. I'll see how the full Akra goes with the stock ecu first, then quietly try for the Ducati map, and if battered and bruised by official-dom, I'll ask Torque power. The big question is whether the E5 ecu's can be accessed as I've read they are not as easy to unlock as earlier ecu's........ I guess I'll know soon enough.

I was thinking maybe the legislative noose has become so tight that I might have left my rebellious decat run too late.

Thanks for reminding me.....that has pepped me up.......now where's my bloody zorst?......still not posted?......big ride coming up in May so I'm keen to get it installed and sorted in April .

Thanks Jono, for sure you'll hear me coming... or going, ....on a club ride soon.

I had a reply from Italy reiterating that since I quoted my Vin, I"ll be able to have the EVO map downloaded by an authorised tech. No mention of express post tracking # yet.

I'm relieved to read the upmap just changes the fuel and ignition maps.

EBay order page still quotes due 14April, if that's realistic...but the progress bar hasn't moved from 'paid' to 'sent' yet....prob a glitch with express post feedback...,.. least I hope so.........although there could be delays due to COVID issues.

So I've gotten over my initial 'I should'a known better' fright and I can't wait to install it (y)

Interesting comment of yours about “All surging is gone”. My V4S has an intermittent significant stutter/surging/lurching issue around 4-6k rpm that Ducati/dealer has not been able to resolve.

Did you have the same issue? I would spend the $3k in a heartbeat, if it would fix the problem….
I had the same. Couldn't stand the constant hunting around 5k rpm. All gone with full Akra. Choked on the cost a bit, but now the bike runs brilliant so I'll soon forget.

Ahem....... BAD NEWS CALLING............

Let me explain :(

I ordered a full Akra system and paid $3630Au for it on the 23rd March, with express postage from Italy initially due for delivery by 4 April, but with covid delays I was to allow some extra time......ok........but then it became due 14April and was never updated to "sent". I respectfully waited until after the Easter long weekend before enquiring about tracking details and was shocked but not surprised by the response from the seller (I watch the world news too).

'The war in Ukraine has caused delays in production'.......... but the item was advertised as 'in stock' and I chose the more expensive express postage option as I didn't want to wait 2 months or more for normal delivery........so the seller has been silent for almost a month, hoping I wouldn't notice and demand my money back .........also the Ebay guarantee is looking very weak, as their offer of a refund will only apply after Wednesday 27th, after I try to get a satisfactory result from the seller first.....and then it's only a 'we can help', not the implied refund upon failed delivery promise.

SO, BUYER BEWARE.......the war in Ukraine is a fact and it looks like it will disrupt life in many ways for months and years to come, but I am disgusted with this sellers underhand way of hiding from reality and not offering me the option to cancel and refund the order like another supplier in Bulgaria has already done on their own initiative (they emailed saying their postage had ballooned out to 55days and offered me the choice to cancel with full refund).

I have asked to cancel my order and requested a full refund, so Ebay is on trial here just as much as the seller..........

Anyone who has ordered one of these systems from Italy in recent months will be in the same position - don't wait for the due date to pass, check for tracking details asap, but I think you'll find the exhaust was never in 'stock' as advertised and therefore hasn't been sent.......and due to the raging war, probably won't be sent anytime soon, if ever .

Damned Puttin......his bombs are affecting everyone...... they are affecting the Ukraine people in a much more devastating way....... I hope those hero's push him back into his cave, but time is running out for them and the problem won't go away into the future.

Ugh sorry to hear this! Makes me glad I made the decision yesterday to pull the trigger on one from my dealer (in stock and took advantage of a tax free sale!). Will be installed May 20th with the upmap at my first service as they are REALLY backed up right now.

Well that was a pleasant surprise :D.......email response from eBay says money has been refunded, payment to come through in 3-4 days after the banks have a good feel with it on the way through........

I'm very relieved.

Seller advised that the Akra full system will again be available from 15June.......nice to know some facts.

Oh well, I've had the Akra slippon in place for 9months and am happy with it, so I'll survive (y).

I'm considering getting a QD Decat, does anyone have any experience with them they could share?

An add I found for them states you can use the stock single pipe inlet can's - has anybody done this and does just going decat only improve the sound out of the standard or Akra cans?

I have the factory Akra slip on, I'm not chasing performance, I'm finding the factory 170 ponies is plenty for my riding, would just like a bit more volume and improved music, although I may look into a Rexxer remap at a later date. I quite like the look of the Akra compared to the rather stumpy QD gunshot and yet to learn of other options.

I just googled QD Decat and looked at the Bellissimoto (Las Vegas) site ...... they have several dyno charts showing good improvement over stock with their QD map unit ..... even with the dB killer installed they got better mid range than stock......I didn't see if they were calling the Akra Slip-on 'stock', or the Ugly-can base model 'stock'...... either way, it looks promising, but will likely need the $650USD map module added to the $1039USD Decat mid pipe to get those results......just like with the Akra 'full' system ;).....and they claim up to 16hp increase.

I'd check local agent stock first, although these are supposed to be made in Italy, not the Ukraine, so maybe a direct order is not as risky if their price and delivery is lots better.

It looks like it might give a similar type of result to the Akra full system in that it goes into a collector box then out via your Akra Ducati slipon......so it might be fruity but not ear splitting.....maybe.......

:D

PS..... I just measured the original stock ugly can I replaced with the Akra slip-on.....and it has an ID of 50mm to the collector box. On the Bellissimoto site the details state the Decat has 50mm tubes going in, but a 60mm tube going out to the muffler.

I just realised that's what Shizzer was asking.....eg will a Ducati-Akra official parts slippon muffler fit onto a QD decat collector.....and it looks like it won't if the Bellissimoto details are correct....

I have a QD fitted to my Multi, I took the baffle out when I fitted it. It really isn't much lighter than the original can. Also really if I knew now , I probably would not of purchased it , as most of the muffling is in the exhaust/cat box underneath.
