Power loss and hesitation under 4000 RPM - solved

Going to relate the details of a recent experience for posterity and searches for future people.

I was experiencing hesitation and low power under 4-5000 rpm, regardless of throttle, and slightly less so when fully hot.

It was getting worse, and I chased wires, plugs, whatever I could find, but it was across both cylinders, so I suspected a clogged filter.

I let the fuel run low to aid draining the tank, and started hearing a hissing sound when the pump primed. Like spraying gas...

Drained the tank and dropped the pump assembly, and lo and behold, the fuel high pressure line into the filter had cracked due to age and extreme bend, and was cutting half the fuel pressure and spraying back into the tank.

All symptoms solved. In fact, its better than ever. I wonder how long it was cracking.

I was going to go nuts and start messing with things I ought not (TPS).

Hope this helps someone in the future!

Jeff

working mostly on BMW's for almost 40 years -anytime I have an issue with running the first thing I do on certain models is look in the tank for split fuel lines, hose coming off of the pump or filter & years ago BMW had an issue with filters that actually split at the seam---It's a very easy & simple thing to check --sometimes it's amazing how many times it's just the simple things nothing really complicated.

I have been having problems similar to yours with my 1098. I have removed the throttle bodies and cleaned them, adjusted the bypass screws, taken the stepper motor off (and compensated with the bypass screws) trying to find a solution. Today I was planning on taking the tank off and pulling the pump/filter and I hope to find something like you have.

Mine is below 4-5k and horrible when cold, but after it gets above 170-180F the problem goes away completely. So that made me think it wasn't a fuel starvation issue.

Did you have to get the hose from Ducati or did you find something else that would work?
