MotoGP - Yamaha to switch to a V4 for 2025

I'd doubt it. They may be working on an 850 V4 for 2027. It would be pretty stupid to work on a whole new power plant just for 2 seasons. Also it's not as if having a V4 is a key to success. The Hondas are much worse than the Yamahas

The autosport article says specifically they want to get a 1000cc bike on the grid before the 2027 change to 850. They confirmed that with a source from Yamaha. And why would it be stupid? Stupid would be sticking with the current engine that isnt competitive, and they know will never be competitive. Stupid was sticking with it for this long when everyone else had moved on to V4s.
Let’s wait and see. I very much doubt Yamaha have confirmed anything with anyone. think about it. If Yamaha were going to make their first v4 in almost 25 years do you think they would confirm it to a rumour or make an announcement on their own timeline?

Your last sentence would seem to imply the Honda would be a successful race bike because it’s a v4. it’s not. Ergo having a v4 is not a recipe for success. also changes to aero and ride height devices in 2027 will adjust the relative benefits of an excess of hp. That is the reason why v4 is favoured at the moment. Don’t forget that in the last 4 seasons an inline 4 has won the title 50% of the time.
