Page 90 of the owners manual, open the key and use a quarter in the slot left to pry it open. Key facing you, release button to the left pry the left side of the housing. You also need to pry up and remove a circuit board before you can remove the battery.

You should really reference your manual and save yourself $160.00 (key) plus labor to reprogram it.

No reprograming required unless you ruin the key by damaging the circuit board or case. Thats why I recommended the owners manual reference.

Page 90 quote: Note
The keys do not need to be reprogrammed after replacing the battery.

I'm reminded how disappointing it is that this process requires prying open fragile parts given how often the battery needs to be replaced (one a year for me).

My fob is taking a beating. Really bad design.

In the video the little white cover on the transmitter stayed put! Whenever I do it that piece falls off...

FYI, you can buy CR2032 batteries at most supermarkets and drug stores too, and in 2-4 packs they are a bit less expensive each (and have long expiry dates).

I have an early 2010. Still on the original fob battery. If I have the key in close range for a while before starting, I sometimes get the low battery error. Once I'm running the dash error clears. If I leave my key out of range when not riding I never get the low battery error.
