De Cat eliminator, for those thinking of doing it

I just removed the cat and installed leo vince mid pipe.

WOW what a difference! it really unleashes the bikes power in the mid and top end. In touring and sports mode, its VERY easy to do power wheelies in just about any gear.

I have not as yet had the re flash of the ecu, (not really sure if its worth it) and the bike runs MUCH better !

Very happy

Oh, it does make the bike nice and loud, but that doesnt bother me !! love it

I decatted with LeoV as well and ran the stock muffler tips and the bike was just too loud for me (and my riding buddies). It definitely gave the bike a much needed bark to the exhaust, but just too damn loud. Slapped on an Akra slip-on and I think it's now about perfect - took out some of the high pitched report on the exhaust and gave it more of a deep snarl. Loud enough to let people know you're on a mean machine, but not so loud people say "damn, your f*cking bike is loud!"

Also got a TuneBoy to help overall smoothness and the provided maps aren't quite what I was hoping for with my particular bike, so next up is a dyno tune.

bike sounds almost the same with or without the stock tips! They do very little to lessen the sound.

I can appreciate the cat and what it does for pollution, BUT why oh why does it hafta be HUGE and weigh so MUCH?
A bit of compromise would be nice .
My 5.4 liter truck has about the same weight of exhaust system!!!
How much energy was WASTED making and shipping that behemoth?
And how much energy is wasted transporting it around when riding , Likely costs us a few MPG just lugging it around under the bike.

I think I'll go in my back yard and burn my old rubber tires. And used motor oil!:rolleyes::D;)

Spoke with a local Duc shop today and he said the Leo Vince rep stated the factory is currently not manufacturing the mid pipe right now. He did mention MIVV is coming out in Feb with and exact replica of the Leo. I have gone to every website and called every Duc shop within 200 miles and no one can get their hands on one. Any that are coming from Italy are already accounted for. Does anyone have an in to where I can get one. I will buy used as well

Leo Vince has gone bust. I bought mine from a ebay shop in the uk.

I live in Australia and i found it on ebay.uk. try a search there. when i bought mine a few months ago, they said they had 10 avalible. get one, forget about how loud they are , with the extra punch, you will be in front of the noise anyway. I dont care how much extra poluution it creates, nothing compaired to how much shit china puts in the air , its well worth it. :)

Maybe a stupid question, but where do you plug in the duc.ee?? My ECU has been overwritten because of an steering lock error, so my rexxer remap is gone now. Ik don't want the EXVL error in my dash in combination with an engine check light. So I bought a duc.ee. But I don't know where to plug it in. I bought the bike without the servo, so I really have no clue.... Please help. A pic would be great!
I can see a cable plug which has a cap on it underneath the saddle... Is that the one?

A couple related thoughts in no particular order.

Larger catalysts are less restrictive than smaller cats and longer cats give the flow more time to, um, react than shorter ones. Mufflers have to be large so you can make it quiet with less restriction. Rule of thumb is that you need ten times the engine displacement in the mufflers/resonators to get a quiet exhaust system with low restriction. "Performace" stuff doesn't follow but it's still a large can to get quiet without bumping restriction too high.

Restriction doesn't make nearly as much difference as many people think. Years ago when CBR900RRs were the cat's meow I put a stock muffler on a flow bench, and a Two Brothers can on the flow bench. The stock muffler had 10 times the restriction of the aftermarket can. It was generally accepted that a slip on and rejetting might gain you 3% more max power. 1000% change in restriction => 3% more power. 3% is also abotu what we saw when running an (auto) engine on the dyno with a stock exhaust and with a "loss free" exhaust (straight pipes). I'm not talking rinky dink inertia dynos here, I'm talking multi million dollar dyno facilty with brake dynos and repeatable results day to day.

If the throttle isn't at WOT, the restriction in the exhaust isn't an issue. You can make more power on the intake side than the exhaust.

Restriction and flow dynamics are two different things. Low restriction is not the holy grail to power.

Butt dynos often report more power when in fact what they are feeling is a change in the torque curve. Add a dip down low and the return to normal higher up feels like a power increase. And it sure does sound faster! Well, louder anway.

Cats generally act as a broad band sound attenuator- they filter out all frequencies. High frequencies are often found to be annoying where low frequencies aren't. Add a bunch of fiberglass as in an afermarket can and you filter out the high frequencies but leave the low ones in => sounds nicer to most ears.

I'm too lazy to de-cat my new bikes. The time I spend at WOT makes it not worth it to me from a power standpoint and I've grown to hate the exhaust smells that older bikes can leave on clothing as mentioned. I've gotten sore throats from being around/riding behind bikes that are running rich.

Your mileage may vary. (But the measured numbers aren't opinions...)

I am thinking of a mid pipe decat for my 2010 multi s.The leo Vince has a resonator, and from a few videos I saw, sounded deeper, but not crazy loud even with the stock tip.My cat seems to get extremely hot,and gives off a sulfur smell. The bike runs great but maybe the cat is too old? I know they don't last forever.Anyway , the cheap option is a danmoto mid, which is a straight pipe and would need a new can or be just too loud. The Leo Vince for my model is widely available, but almost 4 times as costly.Any opinions or experience with either or,would be appreciated.

If you can get a Leo Vince get it, don't compare it to the danmoto, not even close and you get what you pay for.
I had it on my 12 p.p. and added a arrow can but the secret is that resonator built in, you'll love it.
Any other open pipe you'll need a can AND db killer to make it acceptable, the LV is passed that.
I would highly recommend it.
Cheers!

To each his own, matter of choice, on my '16 I used a arrow midpipe listed for the enduro, added a arrow thunder titanium can originally listed for a brutale and a pc, tuned smooth as silk with the baffle in read 142 on the dyno.
The like the arrow sound on a duc over any other out there and it didn't break the bank!

Ha ha ha ha, nah.
I'm just really impressed with what I thought was going to be a low end bit of kit.
Also - with the pipe come instructions which include the sentence:
"As most people will install the pipe over the weekend, please read these instructions carefully. If you stumble on a hurdle, or have a technical problem please text (managers mobile phone number) and if I can call you back to help I will do so. Otherwise we will be in touch on the next business day"
I thought that was pretty awesome.
And then, a week after I purchased it I get a follow up call to make sure it all went on OK.
