Steering locks generally only work with the steering in one position. Usually that is turned completely - or almost completely - to the left.
Try turning your steering all the way to the left and then try. You may have to jiggle the steering to find the point where it will lock.

 

tried to hold the key to the left while turning the handlebars slowly to the most left and then to straight on. nothin , still wont move a milimiter to the left past the push sign

 

It is actually a step, turn it to push then push the key in, and turn it. They key wont just turn all the way to lock. That is to prevent turning it to lock unintentionally.

 

The jey wont turn not even a bit to the left without pushing in .

 

With the key in the off position, turn the handlebars to the left. Then try pushing/turning the key to the left. Don’t turn the key from off until the bars are in the correct position.

Trying to force the key before the steering/handlebars are in the correct position is not a good idea.

 

Ill try, but incase this doesnt work, does that mean the switch might be busted ? the bike has less than 4000 km on it

 

You can prob kneel down on the right side near the fork and look at the steering head and see if the lock mechanism tries to protrude as you turn the key to lock position. If it doesnt, then the lock is not functioning properly.

Not very helpful...but you never know.

 

Pull the left handlebar as far as it will go, then push the key in turn to the left. You may have to pull the bar a little more to enable the lock to engage. If that doesn't work, try pulling the right bar back and try that side. A couple of my bikes only lock on one side.
