I don't know of the Nichols unit, but plenty of 900ss owners deleted the breather box and put a K&N filter on the breather.
I won't go that route though, as any oil that gets past the filter would end up on the rear tire.
You can find the breather and the two hoses on ebay. The longer hose that goes to the air-box is the one that's hard to find in good condition.

Thank you!

There are several companies that make them; Ducabike, CNC Racing, Corse Dynamics, STM. They all make similar versions of a billet replacement.

Update-new rubber, sprockets, and chain, rear wheel installed. I need to remove at least one, maybe two links from the chain, but it just looks, more motorcycley, doncha think?

On to another topic....reassembly has begun, and the only two areas to be addressed are tires and chain/sprocket, which I will complete this week.

The OE crankcase oil breather was a notoriously leaky component. I seem to recall Nichols Mfg made one as I have one on my 916. Is there a currently available oil breather that is better than the original?

If you want to keep the stock breather. Ive had success with just adding an appropriate sized o-ring between the mating surfaces. 3years and probably 12k miles no leak.

I'll try that in the interim...I think they also fail between the plastic center and metal outer.

She's coming together but I discovered that the front fairing/instrument bracket was cracked. Thankfully I have a friend who is a professional welder and he was able to repair it. Now I just need to reinstall the wiring harness. Thankfully I took lots of photos.

I took a fair amount of photos of the wiring harness from the front of the frame to the vertical cylinder on my Super Sport before I disassembled it but as usual, I didn't take enough. By chance is there anyone out there with photos of the wiring harness where it routes along the left side of the frame, under/over the carbs/intake manifold?

I can take some...give me 30 mins.

Not sure if this is helpful. The wiring harness follows where the zip ties are.

Thank you. I was hoping to see where the wires are routed without the carbs/airbox. I think I have it pretty well figured out but was hoping for confirmation. There are three grounding lugs on the frame; 2 on the left side, and one on the right. Do you recall if all three are used?

The two on the left are for the helmet holder lock and triangle boxes for the carbs. The one on the right is definitely used as a grounding point in addition to one connecting a short ground cable from the backside of the footpet bracket to the engine case.

The helmet holder is on the tail section above the exhaust.

There are three on the vertical member of the frame...two on the left side, one on the right.

On Superlights, the helmet holder is on the vertical member on the left side. Regardless, there is no ground connection on the left side of the bike.

Here are the areas I believe are ground points....

Never mind I'm talking shite...

At least on my Superlight, the only two ground point on the frame are on the right side. One is at the location you pointed out right next to air box mounting point. The other is at the foot peg. There is also a ground point at the front fairing bracket.

Lower lug is for the carburetor vacuum chamber boxes ( black plastic thingies).

Upper lugs are for the Half fairing mounting brackets as well as your ground.

The half fairing brackets are not on your frame as someone made their own and welded them on the frame.

It matters not which side so use you attach the ground on the upper lug closest to the negative terminal and look for a ground from the harness.

Thank you.

I'm not sure what you mean by "vacuum chamber boxes." Do you mean the plastic "bottles" that mount behind the seat, under the tank? They attach to different lugs. Maybe you mean the "evaporative canister" (cylindrical metal part)....mine was removed before I bought it.

I now see from my photos that the single lug in the first photo is for a ground strap that goes to negative on the battery (figured out by looking at my photos again).

The half fairing brackets are curious. I believe that 92 Super Sports could be delivered with either full or half fairings, and mine has both. It would seem odd that Ducati would have built two separate frames, one with the brackets for the half fairing, and another without. That said, to your point, the brackets don't look like OE parts (shitty welds notwithstanding), and there is evidence of white overspray on some of the wiring harness which I had attributed to some damage at some point in her life.

I do like the half fairing look and have swapped back and forth several times. I'm going to install the full fairing because I don't have a very safe space to store them, whilst the half fairings fit easily in to a small box.

Look at tboooe ppost 129 and you can see the plastic boxes between the zip tie forrest.

This is to give the CV carburetor chambers still air (so your slides do not open due to wind).

Correct.

They didn't, same frame just with different brackets that bolt on to those lugs you are asking about.

I would guess yours left the factory as a full faired bike and someone who owned a welder decided not to buy the brackets.
But then your pictures are not showing fairing mounts for the full fairings yet either.
