MWR Air filter kit Vs velocity stacks

Was thinking about getting some more power out of my hyper and was wondering if anyone has installed a MWR airbox cover and how does something like this compare with doing velocity stacks. From what I see the MWR box cover costs 150 and the velocity stacks are about 300. I do not want to compromise the filtering of air into the bike and would prefer to do it on my own. I hate letting anyone else touch my bike (dealer) cuz they dont care for her like I do. Any advice or recommendations?

I fitted the MWR. Combined with Zard headers and SilMoto pipe. Also race cams ecu but have yet to fit the cams altho I have them, just not done it yet. Bike runs awesome as is but I guess a bit rich as anyone who can keep up says they can smell fuel.........I guess that should fix itself when the cams go in. Induction noise is LOUD. Ear plugs are a must for me.......unless your just luggin round town.

The MWR is a great idea it keeps the bottom of the air box with the factory intake runners but cuts off the top of the restrictive box. I dont know if it matches the velocity stacks hp. My only gripe is you can't go back to stock with the MWR.

I have the drop in filter from MVR. Its a big improvement over DP air box. I would say its in between the DP cover and stacks. After reflashing my ECU I rode with the DP air box and then switched to the MVR, big difference. I came to realize that the DP cover alone (without lower hole mod) is a joke. I also get a slight intake noise at around 4-5k with the drop in MVR but very minimal.

In conclusion I would say that if ur looking for more power over stock but not to an extreme and mind the noise from intakes get the MVR drop filter, its really bigger then it looks and gets lots of air. Ive also heard that if you want better drivability the drop in would be better, I would assume this is without dynoing the bike.

I have the big MWR (top replacement) running with full termi 2-1 and race cams with ecu. The bike makes tons and tons of power all the way through the rev range, but runs a bit rough and surgey in the lower rpms. (I have not ridden many other hypers, but it sounds like a lot do anyway)

I have not ridden a bike with stacks, but I will say the MWR is very loud! At first I loved it, but now I always wear earplugs, and find the tone just under 5k rpm and about 1/4 throttle almost annoying. a bit buzzy.

I'm going to leave my Paul Smart stock air filter wise now. don't want to cover up my exhaust note or go deaf!

The stack kits & MWR airbox lid can add 5 to 9 HP, as the intake is the biggest problem in making HP for the Hyper/Sport Classics.
The downside to the intakes is the intake noise, and having to dial in the bikes fueling to make the bike run right.
So is it worth it? For me, YES!! :D. Aloha Alex

I had only the MWR filter, not the half airbox replacement, but was happy with the ridability of the bike. In doing my 7500 mile service I found myself at the Ducshop buying closing shims and was so impressed with Mark and the stacks when I saw them that I decided to go ahead and buy the kit. I did end up making my own coil brackets as the idea of zip tying them just just a bit too unelegant, so it took a while, but overall the install was simple.

I love the result. I don't mind the intake "honk" and it seems more powerful, although my ass is a pretty bad dyno.

Off topic rant, but when neither of the Atlanta dealers I went to had the correct shims I needed, it made me wonder how good a job they'd have done on my bike, or how long I would have had to wait if they'd had to order something as routine as shims.

2nd of topic rant... if it's spelled "dynamometer", why do we abbreviate it as "dyno?

Does anyone have pics or vid of their MWR Air Filter Kit? Ive seen plenty of the velocity stacks but only the MWR company photos. Im reading every post I can find of the two filters and it seems as if the velocity stacks have a few negative attributes but haven't seen any for the MWR other then you cannot go back to stock.

I think you saw this one already and there are lots more on this forum .

When you compare them with your stacks : a bit equal , our big filter seems to have more gains in the bottom and midrange and torque , your stacks have a bit more top-end .

About our pod filters I have no idea yet . Radical Ducati did some tests and compared them with K&N and BMC and choose for MWR so ....
It's too early to say something about the performance , but I guess it's close to your stacks , how close I don't know yet . Beginning of next month the first filters will be deliverd to the US and there is already a test arranged so we will know soon.

BTW: how is your bike , I've read you had a oil issue ?

I haven't tried both. In fact, I haven't tried any. I was hoping Alex would try them and tell me which to buy.

But, since you brought it up, in a perfect would, the stacks would work better than an airbox, but you don't ride in a perfect world.

Your airbox already has sudo-velocity stacks in it. Enhancing these may be a plus but you need to have more air. This is where the MWR cover comes in.

The stacks seem like the way to go as you have the velocity stacks and little to no restriction on air intake....to a fault at times.

Part of the job of an airbox is to calm the air before going through the intake tract into the cylinder. The velocity stacks flow a huge amount of air but the air can be very turbulent and that will actually rob the bike of some horsepower. But how much?

Stupid question? I'm guessing that to install either the stacks, or MWR lid, you have to remove the fuel tank?
Yes you will need to remove it. If you are just doing the DP lid or the smaller MWR, you do not. I just installed the small MWR filter and the lid and I just had to remove the front tank bolts and push it up just slightly.

Yes, I saw Dyno charts somewhere that showed the MWR full lid making almost as much HP as the stacks, with none of the hassles of having to Fab coil brackets, etc.
Haven't installed it yet, as I bought a PC-V at the same time & want to line up a Dyno appoiontment to get a custom map done as soon as I do the install, as with the full Termi 2-1 kit & MWR, it'll be running lean as hell until I get the map done.
