So, how are you guys checking for swollen tanks?

Hello fellas, apologies in advance for what feels like a noob question... I have had more japanese sportbikes than I can count, many with plastic tanks... But never an issue.

New to Ducati(recently bought a Pikes Peak), and been reading as much as a can about the tank issues. So, with the plastic tank covers on the MTS1200's.. How are you guys checking for any "tank expansion" on your bikes? Are you pulling off the plastic every month or so? Some other way?

The tank issue is rather disappointing....but I will tell you I am still on cloud 9 with this machine. Best buying experience ever... And truly feel like I bought something special with (this) Ducati!

The plastic tank cover on mine cracked at the mounting point with the left side cover. Also I could tell the body work didnt line up like it did before. If your body work looks fine you probably will not notice a difference.

My dealer is replacing all the body work around my tank and the tank itself under warranty.

Mine split about four inches in front of my seat.

The bodywork on my '10 1200 started gapping early on, which led to speculation that it might be the dreaded tank swelling. Now I think it's just crappy fabrication of the plastic body panels.

Here you go dansz24:

After looking at the photos again I see that the split is quite a bit more than four inches.

If you're thinking of getting a place in Colorado, don't bother. There's really nothing available. There's nothing to rent. Booked solid
