Is there any market for parts off a Multistrada? Thinking about buying a wrecked one for its engine. Front end and frame broke but the rear is suppose to be good. Is there a market for these parts?

quite a while back, some one was looking for the hind end of a multi. he had bought one that had been hit while on a trailer. it broke the swingarm and wheel as i recall. I am sure there will be some interest for a few parts, but the front is what is most often wrecked on a bike. buy it if you can get it for what the motor is worth to you. if you sell a few parts them you will have a bonus, if not, you still have the motor you want at the price you thought OK.
what are your plans for the motor?

Foggy,
I think I know the bike you're talking about....(I'm assuming you're the same "foggy123" as on DesmoNW) ?
It was a friend of mine that got hit. Bike had 700 miles on it.

If it has the full keyset, ECU etc I will buy those at the right price. Track bikers can set it up with an FIM.

Nice to meet you Rafael! Looks like next week I'll start tearing apart the Multi to see what can be saved. All the plastic is rashed but could be repaired. Frame is broke going into stem. Front forks may or may not be bent as well as front wheel. Rear parts of the bike look good (so far).

I'm keeping the engine, ecu and harness so if you are looking for something let me know. I may have a usable piece.

WTB: windshield / speedo mounting bracket for 1000 ds multistrada

I need the windshield / speedo mounting bracket for 1000 ds multistrada. Mine's a 2003, but I think any year should work. I'm jeff - 310-943-8990

oh, and by the way, I think I was the mo who originally offered to buy the wrecked multi with the rear wheel snapped off, here in Marina Del rey, California - I gave the guy $500 down, and after I discovered it had no keys I backed out of the deal, and then bought a grey one from a dealer ...

Of course, now that I've got about 8,000 miles on it, I'm finally learning how to fix one, too...

Thanks for any help!!!!

and furthermore...

Back when I wanted to buy the wrecked Multistrada that had it's wheel snapped off, it was made very clear to me by the good folks at Ducati Beverly Hills that since there was no key, I would have to buy every part new... This is because ducati uses an anti-theft computerized "tagging" system and many of the parts are supposedly useless unless the parts recieve the code from the electronic key. That was why I backed out of the deal in the first place, because Ducati Beverly Hills refused to put me in contact with the guy who had brought the wreck into Ducatit BH, (or even pass on a letter to him, giving him the option to get in contact with me while remaining anonymous) citing "the previous owner's privacy rights". Thus, I couldn't get the key, or even the key code, so I couldn't make the bike work without buying new parts, and I would have to buy many new parts that werent' even damaged in the wreck. The way I was treated by Ducati Beverly Hills made me swear that I would never give them a penny of my money. Of course, if you get that attitude with Ducati dealers, pretty soon you run out of local dealers to talk to....

So the question becomes, suppose I now have a key and my multistrada, can I now buy used parts from a wreck and use them on my Multistrada? In other words, will the key code system also prevent me from using junkyard parts? It might be that by using the "red key" that the parts will all get reprogrammed after you put them on the bike. Does anybody know if this is the case?

anyhow.... just musing
