Filters get stuck pretty often it seems on this board. A few suggestions for getting your old oil filter off:
1. Try a regulary strap-style oil filter wrench.
2. Use a large plumbers pliers (almost always works)
3. Rip it apart and try to twist at various parts using needle-nose and regular pliers

Make sure you get the old rubber gasket off as well. Accidently double stacking the rubber rings is definitely a bad thing.

I had to drive a screw driver through a K&N filter after breaking off the "bolt" on top of the filter, who ever put it on torqued it too tight. The screwdriver worked and got the filter off, kind of messy though.
