hi,

i've searched the forum and the pictures that i was able to find where way too close for me to see or orient myself in them to figure out what parts have expanded. Its looking like my search has ended and im going to pick up a new to me biposto tomorrow, but want to make sure that im not getting a bike with an expanded tank. my current monsters tank is fine, and i know how to spot an expanded tank...but not when it comes to the SC. what should i be looking for? any pictures of expanded tanks i could use as reference?

thanks,
tt

feel under the front left and right for the pucks where it mounts to the frame. If you can feel the rubber pucks, and especially if it's easy to lift the front of the tank up and they are completely out of the mounts, the tank is spread. I just got a new warranty one put on yesterday, and its completely flush to the frame mounts now.

any before and after pics to illustrate this?

thanks,

Good pics can be tricky to get due to the location of the pucks, but as stated, play at the front - up/down, side-to-side - is the key. A little (less than 1/8") isn't in itself a problem but will likely increase if not dealt with. Also look for bubbles, lack of symmetry, other surface irregularities, and impediment of steering lock on either side.

Waves in the top between the gas cap and ignition cutout quite often. I didn't realize how dramatic those were until I got my replacement. Probably best to set your expectations off the bat and expect that if it hasn't already it will at some point. To what degree is the bigger question.

It's hard to show a pic that will be a good example. Like LiveStrong said, I didnt realize how dramatic the expansion on mine was until I got the new one. if you can grab the tank and lift the front off the frame without disconnecting the back, that's a sure sign. If you can feel the little pucks with your hand but they are still mostly in the mount, it's probably less of an issue. Not sure how prevalent the ethanol gas is up in Canada, but sitting out in the sun a lot seems to be part of the problem as well. GL

Tankspread- It's like the supreme court's definition of porn, "you know it when you see it"
