So far, so good. I really don't expect any problems, a 2004 should be considered a 'modern' motorcycle, unlike say, a 1974 bike. I like that my bike is 'old' in the ever-changing world of motorcycles, it's nice to be able to work on it myself. (and I have) It has handled everything out here so far, a daily ride can easily have a 3,000 foot elevation change. Like I say, so far, so good.Neat photo! How does the air cooled bike handle Death Valley temperatures?
There’s a lot to like about “older” motorcycles from a maintenance perspective. I had a ’92 R100GS that was dead easy to work on…and it rarely needed work.So far, so good. I have no advice, but am wishing you good luck with your bike.Tried for my first ride after resurrecting a dead 2004 1000DS that has been sitting for 3 years. Ive replaced the fuel pump, injectors, plugs, oil, brake/clutch fluid and crankshaft position sensor. Was going for a first ride but once warm the beast will not idle and reluctant to restart. Thought better of the ride so parked it and will be diving into the service manual to see if I can address the issue on my own.
Sigh.
I was really looking forwards to the ride.
Is it hard to get up on the center stand?I bought a Park N Move for my bike because garage space is super tight and I got tired of banging the mirror against the wall when trying to get the bike just right. Not cheap but super useful in my case.
Before vs after.

I'm from Seattle, born and raised. I live in Nevada now, outside Las Vegas. Go Mariners!I bought a 2014 "S" last year with only 4k miles on it with all 3 hard bags. Original tires on it too. I changed every fluid, did timing belt, and put Continental Trail Attacks on there. I added the Tuneboy tune & cruse, the main reason I even bought this bike was the ability to add cruise, and, it was extremely cheap! Love picking up a perfect used bike at a bargain price.
I rode it from Seattle to Las Vegas and back last week, thru the California Sierras, Death Valley, Up through Utah, Idaho, Oregon, and home. The bike never gave me a problem.
This is my 4th Ducati and probably the best one yet. Looking forward to riding more and reading and writing here.
It’s more difficult than without the dolly but I was able to do it with a pair of crocs on. I have a couple 3/4” pieces of wood I planned to put the bike on to make getting it on the dolly easier but they were unnecessary. Is it hard to get up on the center stand?
Go M's, Kraken too! I can tell you that 395 into Death Valley ride was one of my favorites ever. Then out the Lake Mead Rec area. I grew up in Las Vegas and I remember camping on the lake and at Valley of Fire St. Park, I still love it out there.I'm from Seattle, born and raised. I live in Nevada now, outside Las Vegas. Ah that’s really nice. The one I had was definitely not that low and was impossible to get my vfr up on it.It’s more difficult than without the dolly but I was able to do it with a pair of crocs on. There are other dolly’s out there but this one is so low to the ground, it’s nearly unbelievable. It’s designed to support a Goldwing. You do need really smooth pavement so it’s fine in the garage.
