Hi,

Does the Brembo cast iron full floater disk use different pads to the stainless swiss cheese type disks (SP vs CR)?

I bought myself a new pair for CI Brembo rotors and need to know whether I can use my existing pads or should I change. Also, if I change, which pads are recommended for general use (commuting, mountains, track days, etc).

I'm pretty sure you do NOT want to use sintered pads on cast iron. My track bike (916) has the old style cast iron full floaters. The previous owner recommended for me to use Ferodo CP911* pads up front, and he had been using it strictly for the track for many years. I think a new version comes out this year to replace those pads however. At least that's what Braketech told me awhile ago. I would think also you could use any organic pad. Not sure though.

I've been using them for nearly 20 years on my Guzzis. Dunlopads with the F08 calipers, and EBCHH with the 30/34 calipers. The disks wear faster, though.

On my ST2 (with cast iron Discacciati disks), I use CP911* pads, which are less than optimal when cold and/or wet, but much better than the EBC greens I tried (I've got two new sets, and two barely used, if anybody wants them).

Are they new cast iron rotors, or new to you (ie used)? If used, you should scuff the brake surface then clean with a solvent. Check out Brake Tech's web site, www.braketech.com for a rotor cleaning tool. In general, the pads recommended for the track do not perform as well on the street. They're designed to work at higher temps, and lack the initial bite when they are cool.

I forget where I read or who told me this. But it makes sense the reason is the disks wear faster.

Hi,

Yes, they brand are new disks - never been used. I notice in my owners manual they say: Friction Material - FERIT I/D 450 FF. And seeing that the manual covers the normal 900SS and the Superlight, I suppose they use the same pads from the factory?

I'm keen on the CP911* pads from Ferodo, but if they don't work as well when they're cold or wet, then maybe it would be better to settle for the Ferodo Platinum (organic) pads. Does anybody have experience with these?
