Not on your roll, I'm from North West Wyoming, but would like to know the best time of year to ride the Island. Always looking for interesting places to ride. What areas are the best to ride and those places best to avoid? Would probably ride across Southern BC to the Island and return via the Northern Cascades. Would appreciate any information for this trip.

Thanks guys for the information. I need a place to go during June, July, Aug. and Sept. and could head up that way during any of those months. I like to camp out at middle class motels or resorts rather than in the dirt. Would be traveling with another rider, and we might have our wives on the pillions. My wife would love to see that country and enjoys bike traveling almost as much as I. We've ridden the Canadian Rockies and some of the BC Interior but not any further west. Information regarding the good riding roads would certainly be helpful. Thanks in advance for that info..

van isl is a 1.5 hour ferry ride west of vancouver.there are many fun roads but 3 trips that shoudn't be missed.cambell river to gold river is a less travelled high speed ,sweeper filled highway that has awsome views along the way.from mid island(my home) a perfect day trip.port alberni to tofino is a more technical (lots of posted 30 km hour)twistys with great views and the famous west coast beaches at the end.you will encounter traffic so i'd reccomend a early start to this day.also this ride takes you through cathedral grove,a old growth forest(another tourist destanation).lastly the jordan river run from victoria, coastline twistys awsome views and packs of roving sportbikes on the lookout for newbs with chicken strips.when i have a bit more time i'll try and post up maps and perfered routes to get to these and others. and of course get ahold of me if you want a tour guide.

Thanks a bunch for that info. and I'll give you a shout for a tour when I get further along with plans. I'm thinking about heading north from here to Waterton Park in SW Alberta and on north along the east side of the Rockies on HY 40, then west through Baniff Park and zig zagging north to south in a westerly direction and coming down in to Vancouver from Whistler. How long would it take to ride the Island's best roads in the month of July? Would traffic be heavy then and if so would June, August or Sept. be better? Are any of these months more apt to be rainey than another? I'm thinking about exiting the island on the ferry from Sidney, going to Anacortes, then taking Washington HY 20 east through the Cascades and winding up at Glacier Park before heading south to home base in NW Wyoming. When taking those ferrys, how does one find the schedules and etc.? Is it necessary to be at those ferrys early to get a spot? Travel on ferrys is new to me. I don't believe we have those things in Wyoming any more. I believe the last one was on the Green River in SW Wyoming on the Mormon Trail back in the 1800s.

Start with the Washington State DOT homepage
http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/
From here you can surf around the site for info on ferries and road conditions. There are even links to BC road conditions and ferries. Washington State ferries let riders board first, although the procedure is different at each dock. I do not know what the system is in BC.

Don't go anywhere in BC without that book! Everything you need to know about anything that matters regarding paved roads is in there.

FYI about BC ferries: bikes are first on, first off. Don't worry about the line up of cages, just go right to the front.

Expect rain!

Ah heck! If any of you make it up Victoria this summer, I'll definitely introduce you to our favorite ride to Jordan River along the south west side of the island. I'm always looking for an excuse to ride up to Gold River in Strathcona Park which is about half way up the island.

We can then take the ferry across to Lions Bay and ride up to Whistler, Pemberton and then on to Duffy Lake Road. One of of the best motorcycle rides in BC
