According to La Repubblica - one of the most important Italian newspapers - on September 14th 2009 at 6:30 pm, an Audi S6 arrived at Porgo Panigale. Uccio Saletti was at the wheel, Jeremy Burges on the passenger seat and... Valentino Rossi was in the backseat.

According to some sources, Rossi would be riding a Ducati next year! And he would take Davide Brivio with him, plus Jeremy Burges and a bunch of mechanics. Ducati would have 2 teams: Ducati 1: with Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden.

Ducati 2: with Valentino Rossi.

For those of you who speak the language, here is the link to La Repubblica:

Shenanigans!
I wouldn't label this as incorrect or deceitful. Apparently the source of this piece of news is not just one: La Repubblica wrote about this on Oct 9th, and on Oct 14th Il Riformista added more details.

Will see. Apparently there is a sort of pre-agreement for now. I'm just reporting the news because if it's true it'd be fantastic.

Ciao,

I'm still skeptical but will admit that the GP bike/program would benefit greatly from a relationship with Rossi.

It worked for Honda and Yamaha...

Rossi is a contracted Yamaha rider for 2010. I believe all the signs point to him riding for Ducati next and argue the point at great length if you are interested.

Why Rossi will finish his career with Ducati
Contracts "are made to be broken", especially in Italy... It's just money, after all...

;-)

Anyway, I guess we'll know better after Phillip Island.

Not gonna happen. Rossi is contracted with yamaha. Ducati has already penned their riders too. I'm sure it the italian dream to have Rossi aboard a Duc but, its only a dream.

Its more likely that Rossi would ride a Buell in the future! lol

I can't agree more... Also, regarding the Ducati 2 team, apparently it will be a sort of satellite team, of course with full factory backing, just like Valentino old Honda Nastro Azzurro Team.

If only Buell were still around next year... Unfortunately, as of today, Buell doesn't exist anymore.

Erik Buell just announced almost in tears they are shutting down operations:

Ahh, and by the way, Harley Davidson is going to sell MV Augusta.

Ciao Francesco,

I also noticed that this morning when I read my favorite Italian blog:
http://www.motoblog.it/

But then I noticed that NOBODY dared to comment about it on any of my other favorite racing sites:
http://www.motogp.com/
http://www.superbikeplanet.com/newind.htm/
http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/
http://www.motorcyclenews.com/
http://moto-racing.speedtv.com/

I don't think Ducati can afford it, even if all the Italian would dream about it, maybe they should ask for government sponsorship, we have government contractors who are very good at that here:D

ciao, Christian.

Christian,

if NOBODY dares to comment on it yet, maybe it's because this is fresh news? Il Riformista published it just yesterday.

Little by little details will start to leak. Be patient!

Your favorite site MotoBlog.it just points out that Rossi has a contract with Yamaha for 2010.

My question is: if one of your employees would tell you that next year he's going to work for your main competitor, would you let him work for you for an extra year or would you prefer to let him go before the end of his contract?

If I were in Mr. Yamaha shoes, I would prefer to let Valentino go at the end of this season, save some good cold cash, get some extra cash using legalities, and carry on with Lorenzo.

Food for thoughts...

Vale has mentioned that he is not happy developing a bike that can directly benefit this biggest rival! So if he goes to Ducati in 2010 it would be no different - personally I think that when Stoner gets back to 100% he will be stronger then Lorenzo.
I know that Vale has been in contact with Ducati pre signing with Yamaha but didn't take Ducati as they wouldn't give him the freedom to develop the machine - guess things has changed!
I think Vale will stop Motorcycle racing after Yamaha and start Rally car racing!

And in that italian article he is saying he doesn't want to ride for a ciggarette sponsored bike and that he does not feel confortable being with yamaha anymore. Ducati and him have been in talks since May. Alot of it I thinks has to do with them extending lorenzo for 2 years. That pissed him off. he thinks yamaha despite him winning titles is planning to make Lorenzo the #1 rider.

Marlboro would cough up the bucks no problem. Pun intended. :D
not just marlboro ... i am pretty certain fiat would rather have their logo on an italian brand than a japanese brand bike in motogp.

this would open up title sponsor money from a spanish group, via lorenzo ... perhaps telefónica movistar?

Would Casey stay at Ducati?
Val will whinge and manipulate Casey, who has done a fabulous job making the Duc a winner, into a secondary position. For Sure!!
Yamaha has the lollypop sucking Lorenzo who is good.
Jeremy and Co still going with Valentino Yeah they are also looking at finnishing sometime soon and making one more load of $$
Honda has Nobody who can do the job propperly!
Casey on a HONDA?:abduct:
