Troy Bayliss has organised a dirt track race meeting like nothing ever seen before.

After his inaugural meeting in January 2012, Troy has once again returned to his roots of dirt track racing, on the track he grew up on at Taree on the NSW Mid North Coast.

The rider lineup for the meeting at the Old Bar Roadside Circuit, 15klms South of Taree on Saturday 19 January 2013 is pretty impressive......

2013 Pixado Troy Bayliss Classic Rider List

1. Troy Bayliss
2. Chris Vermeulen
3. Randy De Puniet
4. Chris Watson
5. Shawn Giles
6. Jamie Stauffer
7. Josh Hook
8. Chris Hollis
9. Barry Cockle
10. Wayne Maxwell
11. Paul Caslick
12. David Armstrong
13. Jason Crump
14. Garry McCoy
15. Stephen Gall
16. Broc Parkes
17. Toby Price
18. Damian Cudlin
19. Danial Reardon
20. Anthony Gunter
21. Vaughan Style
22. Troy Herfoss
23. Josh Waters
24. Phil Lovett

All of these riders are exceptionally well credentialed in their chosen field, but have the common thread of having commenced their careers in dirt track.

For those who would like more information ,,,,,,

This link from an Aussie forum contains some video footage of Bayliss and Vermulan practicing on the track at Taree.

Troy Bayliss Classic - Event - Visit NSW

Should be a FANTASTIC race meeting.
I've already bought our tickets online, and deliberating mode of travel.
I want to do the Wolverines Poker Run at Tamworth the next day, and it's a 9.00am start. But I don't fancy doing the Oxley Hwy in the dark (lotsa wildlife).

So it's a toss-up ,,,, Drive to Taree, and drive home that night ,,,, orrrrr

Ride, leaving Tamworth 6.00am on the Saturday morning, for the 4 1/2 hour ride, with stops at Walcha for fuel, Gingers Creek for coffee, Wauchope, then the Bago road down to the highway, with a fuel and Maccas stop at the Taree interchange, which is only 20 klms from the track.
Then leave at 5.00am Sunday and blast it back home with minimal stops to make it in time for the Poker Run.

Anybody thinking of going, give me a yell, and we'll see if we can meet up either along the way, or at the track.

Despite it being Bayliss' meeting, and with 3 times World Speedway Champion Jason Crump in the field, I'm thinking that these riders will be the ones at the pointy end of the results,,,,,,,
Jamie Stauffer, Paul Caslick, Garry McCoy, Troy Herfoss, Chris Watson, Chris Vermeulen and Broc Parkes.

Cheers
Trevor

PS; ,,,, If he's at home that weekend, it would not surprise to see a certain recently retired former MotoGP World Champion stick his head in for a look see.
He raced against about half of this field in his junior days, and I've seen him win a few state and national championships on this track. I'll be going within 30klms of his front gate on the way ,,,,, might give him a call and see if he'd like to come LOL.

Awesome! Thanks for posting this, pretty sure it would have come and gone stateside with me none the wiser, save the good people of this forum. Any chance a Yank could catch this on his tele? Looks like good fun, put my money on McCoy! He's kind of a hero...

There's certain to be news clips of it on the 3 networks on our East Coast.
The only chance of any lengthy footage would be our Speedweek channel, which is on Foxtel.
The bloke who puts their motorsport programs together is David Tapp, with Rod Colhoun as expert commentator.
If I see them at the meeting I'll try to suss them out on who, where and when it gets some air time, and if so, I'll post in here.
It might get picked up by a network over your way.

I see the "Trolling Goat Herder" is at it again

They thought about inviting ONE of the former "Gleek World Champions" ,,,, but couldn't find ANY  :D

An impressive lineup, but IMO one key name is missing and it rhymes with Cat Pee  ;) :D
Then we'd find out if he could ride as fast as he talks :D

And I see when you get butthurt about your bromance Casey Stoner you still like to make fun of other peoples nationalities. Some things never change, but I still won't stoop to your level and crap on Australians cause I think they're awesome, except for you :)

ps, when Arthur Sissis becomes some kind of world champ you'll have to find something more stupid to try and bug me about ;).

No "Nationality problems, bias or prejudice here.
Arthur Sissis is an AUSTRALIAN, of Greek extraction.
A VERY good rider, who will go a long way ,,,,, flying the AUSTRALIAN FLAG as he goes.

You're the one with the "nationality problem"
You NEVER let up in your demeaning posts about Casey Stoner.

I'm just "Returning serve" ,,,,, If you don't like it ,,,, You stop, and I'll stop ,,,,,,, in the meantime ,,,,,
Baaaaaah, Baaaaaah,,,,, Hope you've found a pretty one  :D

It look all go, till 14 year old Olly, said that he didn’t want to upstage the old blokes. Can you believe it.:D

Olly is a VERY promising rider ,,,,, But at the rate his head is growing, he'll be lucky to get a helmet on it.

He was interviewed on SpeedSport back in September of last year.
The interviewer asked ,,,,,,, 'I suppose you'd like to be Australia's next Casey Stoner"

To which Olly replied ,,,,,, "No, I want to be the next Olly Simpson"
That went over well at the time, but he's pushed the line enough times since that it's worn out.

The comments attributed to Olly in the quoted post are typical of how he self promotes to the enth degree.

Like I said ,,,, He's GOOD ,,,,, Bloody good ,,,,,, but he's now talking faster than he rides.
I wish him well, but only time will tell.

Troy Bayliss Classic is on tomorrow.

Temperatures today were breaking heatwave records all up the East coast.
Sydney had it's hottest day ever ,,,, 45.8 degrees.
Some places hit 47 degrees.
Taree had 44 degrees.

The track at Old Bar is an oiled surface, which has 2 aspects for the uninitiated ,,,,,

When it's hot, the oil comes to the surface, and contrary to logical thinking, actually increases the tyre grip because it binds the dirt together.

I've raced there many times since the early 70's, and when it's hot and DRY, I've run cut slicks or full wets.
Twice I finished second, and twice finished third in NSW Championships held there.

BUT ,,,, if it rains ,,, and it doesn't take much ,,,,, even a passing shower ,,,, and the surface becomes like glass, with the old adage of ,,,, Oil & Water DON'T mix.

The weather bureau is forecasting thunder storms from middle of the afternoon. BUMMER.

There are 180 riders entered on 225 bikes.

Gates open at 7.30am
Practice for the juniors is 9.00am, seniors at 10.00am.
Racing starts with Juniors at 11.00am.

The "Big kids" are programmed to be on the track around mid afternoon for the Super Pole shootout.

They showed an interview with Troy on the national news tonight.
He said they were expecting a Full House crowd.
They stopped online ticket sales on Thursday because at the rate of sales, they wouldn't fit everybody in. So approx half the tickets have been pre-sold, with the balance at the gate on a first come, best dressed basis.
When the place is bulging at the seams, I guess they'll shut the gates.

No cars to be parked around the track. All terraced areas are for sit down or stand up spectators only.

There's a 100 acre car park behind the pit area.

A tip for the car park ,,,, It's a cow paddock, with lush green grass. When you park, point the vehicle DOWNHILL towards the road/gate.
If it does rain, you'll never get out unless you've got a 4x4.
I've heard people say that vehicles have got bogged in there on a Sunday, and not retrieved until the following weekend.

If it even LOOKS like it will rain semi serious, forget about the racing, get your vehicle out before others churn the paddock into a mudheap.

Fingers crossed it doesn't rain ,,,, but there are some praying for it to relieve the spreading bushfires.

My tips for the podium ,,,, Paul Caslick, Jamie Stauffer, Broc Parkes.
With Jason Crump, Garry McCoy, Troy Herfoss, Damien Cudlin, Chris Vermeulen and Michael Kirkness as the outsiders.

Bayliss, RdP & Co won't keep up with these fellers

My tips for the podium ,,,, Paul Caslick, Jamie Stauffer, Broc Parkes.

The Troy Bayliss Classic was run and won yesterday, after a 3 hour delay due to rain.

The field of riders was a "Who's who" of Australian Dirt Track over the past 30 years.

Here's a pic taken during the rain delay.
I'm in the raincoat, confering with the Steward as to options for making it happen if the rain stopped.
As you can see, the surface was like glass. So slippery that it was difficult to walk on without going arse over.

The rain delay meant that riders had more time than originally allocated for autographs.
Below are from L-R
Jason Crump (white cap) - 3 times World Speedway Champion, and top 3 in the world every year since 2000.
Jamie Stauffer (red cap) - 2 times Australian Superbike Champion, and holder of 23 national and 58 state dirt track titles.
Chris Vermeulen - Standing, in black T shirt
In the background, sort of between the 2 blokes in white shirts is a side-on, partly obscured Troy Bayliss.

RC712 ,,,, Seeing as you're a McCoy fan ,,,,here's a pic for you, and some info below.

The rain delay gave time for old mates to catch up.

L-R - Myself, Garry McCoy, Jack "The Jackster" Stevens, my partner Kathryn.

Garry, Jack and I have "banged handlebars" a few times over the years on dirt track, longtrack and speedway.
Not that I ever saw much of him on the track ,,,, he was always well in front of me.

If you ever wondered where Garry gets his incredible skills at sliding a GP bike, it's from his dirt racing days.
I knew he was now residing in Queensland, and he told me that his new business venture is taking shape. It's a rider training facility, that includes dirt track, motocross, speedway, and will eventually include road racing when he can secure lease time at a suitable track.

VIDEO FOOTAGE of the event.
I caught up with Kevin Magee, who was commentating the event for Speed TV.
He didn't know the finer details, but he told me that there will be a You Tube facility on the Speed TV website sometime around the end of February or early March.

Here's a link to the Speed TV website, which is part of the FoxSports network.

Big names for Troy Bayliss race | Motor Sport | Fox Sports

Kevin said to keep an eye on it, and hopefully after they've sold it enough times to their Pay TV customers, they'll post it as an archived You Tube.

I should get the full race results, pointscores and Superpole times later this week.

I'll post them up when they are available.

But for the moment, winner of the 12 lap final was ,,,,,
Michael Kirkness (Rubberman # 387)
He's been a regular in the AMA Flat Track series over the last few years, winning "Rookie of The Year" in 2011.

Bayliss missed the Superpole cut, but was included in the final as one of 2 "Promoter's choices". He crashed out mid race.

Randy de Puniet was a real surprise packet. He mixed it VERY well with some of the best.

Cheers

Enjoy.

Phil Lovett who is the fat guy speaking during part of the video is the one wearing the bright Orange riding suit, he wasn't too shabby.
The racing was hard & no holes barred.
In race one Bayliss did a Rossi almost(he stayed on the track) to overtake for the lead on a inside pass when there was no opening, it was brilliant.

This sort of racing kind of explains why Aussies in general are good in the wet, they were racing these things on "wets" on compacted oiled dirt that was wet from rain, yet the surface had grip almost like tar, hard to understand I know, anyway enjoy the clip
