I am seriously considering trading in my 2010 Hyper 796 for a new 848 Corse.

The problem is that i am worried i will have more fun on my Hyper than a 848. I bought the Hyper for less than $7 with a lot of mods. I will be getting a good deal on the 848, but it is still a big chunk of change. HMMM What to do?

Any one here regret going back to a Superbike?

P.S. Save the buy an 1100 comments. The 796 suits me just fine.

I wouldnt want the 848 for anything but a dedicated track machine. The hyper is way to fun and comfy anywhere u go thats not a racetrack...my first bike was built as a lightweight twins(back before honda hawks were made obsolete by the sv650) race bike w lights, but once i swung a leg over a motard i never looked back. I never actually Raced, just spends buttloads of $ on track days w my motorcycle 'club' where we raced eachother.

After owning a hyper, the only way I would go back to a superbike is if I could keep the hyper and have a track only superbike. The hyper is just too versatile.
+1 , yeah its hard man you need two bikes

i have the hyper and a sps

sps get riden at philip island 7-8 times a year (and about 500 klms on the road) hyper gets riden everytime i want to giggle..or a quick 1 hr fang then giggle , hell after 2 years i giggle just typing the words H y P e R :D

I recently got on my 996 just to move it around, after having spent most of my riding time on my Wee'tard. First impression - the Hyper is SO much more user friendly. Coincidently I got the insurance bill for both of the bikes the next day. Michigan adds a lovely fee to each vehicle you insure. I've pretty much decided I'm not going to renew the insurance on the 996 and it's going into storage until a later date. I just can't imagine riding the 996 as much as I ride the Hyper.

I'm not sure how a 996 and an 848 compare but I can't imagine the 848 would be as fun for an everyday bike. How much experience do you have with superbikes? IMHO they make horrible streetbikes...

My last Ducati was a 748, so i am familiar with the nuances of riding a Superbike. It does look like i will be keeping the Hyper unless they give me a deal i cannot refuse.

But Dam the Corse looks sweet.

Well I'm an older guy and there is NO WAY I'm going back to the ergonomics of Superbike for riding around town after having thrown a leg over my Hyper. For what to look cool?? Pass. If it was going to be a track tool then I understand but people riding Superbikes for daily street use perplex me.

True, but sometimes it helps to hear someone else's point of view.
Well if a point of view is what you want: For me there came a point in time when a motorcycle needed to have a broader focus as opposed to a narrow focus, since I am able to have only one bike. Both those bikes you are debating are narrow, (very) focused bikes. Ask yourself: "How long can I live with a bike that's basically a one trick pony?"

Save you money for a 848 "Multi-hyper" that Ducati may be working on:

Looks to be a medium sized, sporty, fun bike...with utility. :)

I actually decided to pass. But not because of the bike. When i first started looking, i tried to take everything into consideration including insurance, maintenence etc. I first recieved an insurance quote which was much lower than expected. I based by decision in part on that. I thought the quote was a bit light so i just double checked the quote. seems they got it wrong and insurance will be triple what i am paying now. All in all the inflated prices and associated cost are not in the cards right now.

Oh well. Hyper stays for awhile.

Thanks,

As a 6 month 796 owner I say keep it!
Current sports bikes are just so focused that you really need to be on a track to explore their potential fully + the general discomfort, harsh suspension, weight on wrists, cramped legs, neck ache. You can hop on the hyper and have a whale of a time just going to the shops or a pointless:D spin.
Maybe it depends on the roads where you live, if they're track good then a sports bike could make sense.

The Hyper is gone. It just had to many little issues to be sinking money into. I picked up my new 848 Corse this weekend. I can't wait for the next track day.

we'll see you back here .....in a few months? :D

I'M BACK

Not in a few months but I did just pick up a white Hyperstrada. Barely riden it yet but should be a fun bike. I got to ride a friends for awhile and liked it. Hopefully the heated grips will arive before the spring.

I loved the 848 Course, but functionality was getting in the way of riding. Now I have bags to store stuff and the wife doesn't mind being a passenger. Plus the 18K service interval is a big seller.

I picked up an SV650 as a racebike to satisfy any need for speed.
