I have written on this previously…however…
Within one week of taking delivery of my titanium 1200 the paint had got damaged. Ducati here (Malaysia) were very helpful and directed me to two specialist paint shops, both of whom said….bad luck!! (Explaining that there was ‘a lot of it about’!). These new matte finishes (cars and bikes) are totally unprotected. So no nice hard clear-coat and no nice good ‘wax’ (or polymer thingy) and as such they get irreparably damage by things very easily. Ducati exchanged the damaged panels and sent them back for analysis. (Very nice of them).
I wash the bike once a week and after each long ride. I use Harley Sunwash to wash and then their ‘denim’ spray to clean and protect. Sadly…the same damage is reoccurring.
Now yes…some people cover the bike in ‘film’….and if there was a good shop here doing that then I might consider it…but there isn’t…so I wont.
So…firstly …any other titanium people having this problem…and second…I think I am going to have to apply a ‘polish’…so has anyone any ideas on that? (I know….polish will lose the ‘look’…but …I fear I have little choice). All views very welcome.

Few company (3M is one) make a clear coat with the flat finish or matte if you like, it protects the paint even though the finish is invisible because it has no shine.
All you have to do is prep the surface and apply a couple of coats and done, you can wax it as much as you want and the base coat will be seald.
I'm sure the body shop you go to is aware of this kind of product!
Cheers!

The last two sounds like good option.
Apart from some scratches on the left if the tank, my paint is still fine everywhere else.

Thanks LaRossa...that's worth looking at...I could try it on the two side box panels and see. let's see if we get any other responses in the next few days. Cheers. Nick

After over 6000 miles my paint still looks perfect. I've only washed the bike twice and was very gentle with both the process and the products used. I used muc-off cleaner and chemical guys matte detailer.

What exactly is your paint doing?

If you look into old school hot rodders they use to use lemon pledge. It works good and gives a little bit of protection against like bird poop etc. I used it on a matte black RC31 I had and it worked good, smelled nice too, otherwise I agree with archimedio, just wash and dry and only use an ammonia based cleaner (windex). The pledge will not give it a shine, just deepen the dark look with a very thin layer, try it, if you don't like it a little windex will take it right off. In the end I decided matte finishes are a PITA, unless they are clear coated matte, good luck.

I think your washing/detailing procedures are exasperating the problem.

Thanks for the comments and I will talk to a paint shop about matte clear coats. As for washing...my bike gets lovingly hand washed...with a good product. often. The issue really is that we have 'naked' paint....with NO protection at all from anything...so it will get damaged...and yes, the roads here in Malaysia are not the cleanest!

i have one number and letter for you,

3M :)

i couldn't be happier with the kit on mine.....never a worry, or at least less of one, and hardly noticeable.

Nick, you may not have a supplier in your locale, but the kits can surely be ordered. Maybe it's too late though. :(

Could you please post some photos from different angles with and without the flash? I'd realllllly help in understanding what the issue is.

My Titanium paint looks great. How is it going to fail?

You all should know too before you buy any expensive decal kits that most will not work on the new Ducati matt finishes.

they won't? mine did! :) and it's a matte/frost film to boot.....you could not tell it was on there if it wasn't for the seams.

edit: the 3M film my installer used is specifically designed for matte paint finishes.....the kit/template was downloaded and computer-cut using a plotter.

LaRossa...have u actually applied that finish yet?
The marks are like black flecks....from the pattern, not thrown up from the front tyre. More like I was driving behind a chemical tanker that was leaking!!
They are 'burnt' into the paint. Two paint shops tried to see if they would 'compound out'....they dont. Oh well...maybe I did drive behind a leaking chemical tanker....twice! I'll try and get some pics. Thanks again for the comments. I guess my post was really to see if anyone else was finding this finish particulary delicate and it seems not.
