Just wanted to ask a question, silly maybe but why not? I'm planning on putting Pirelli diablos on my 99 748. What is the opinion of going bigger on the rear tire to a 190/50 instead of the stock 180/55 size. Opinions appreciated, thanks alot!

the 180 offers quicker turning, and is cheaper too. The 5.5" wheel was designed for the 180 width, although Ducati still suqeezes a 190 on a 5.5" wheel for the liter-bikes to get a little more contact patch while leaned over

180/55 is good enough for the 748.

190/55 is for 996´s and above. The added mass works against our "small" engine, since that tire weighs more.

EDIT: 190/50 suck.

+1

If you have a tricked out race only 999R with a 6" rim, you can probably get away with one of the new 190/60 tires that are out there... although they are probably better on the +175HP Gixxa's....

One thing others didn't mention is that 190/50 is a bit flatter (aka less round) than the 180/55. I actually went down to the 180/55 on my 999 because it felt a lot easier to turn at the track...something I noticed when I went up from a 749 to a 999.

In this instance and as I always try and convince my wife, bigger isn't necessarily better.

Tires

That is pretty much the reason i'm going to stay with the 180, I really like the twisty stuff and the tires I have now are like riding on 2x4s. The quicker turn in is definitely the way to go.
