Before this weekend Simoncelli had never ridden the Aprilia V4, never been on the control tire or been involved with the team. After the weekend, he not only made it to the final qualifying session, but ended up beating Ben Spies in the 2nd race and putting the Aprilia on the podium!

This is the beginning of a new champion, one who sounds like he could do some damage in MotoGP, but does he really belong there? What if Simoncelli stayed in WSBK on the Aprilia? Sounds like he could be a real threat. At the same time Pasini has been testing the Ducati GP09 and has been very successful.

Are we seeing a new line up that could really do some damage in MotoGP next season?

I think we would have to see how he does at other tracks. An Italian riding an emotional high and going really good in Italy is not indicative of how he will do other places. He was amazing in Imola but I would wait till after I see him race a few more times. He is off to a hell of a start though.
