Most gixxer owners are not riding cookie cutters by choice. That's because they cannot afford Ducati. If they could, most would be in this forum.

And most Ducatisti ... if you take off the money... they would be in gixxers, or any Japanaese equivalent monster LOL.
FOR ME.....my Monster is what I want and there is no Japanese equivelent in feel or handling or versatility...the SV comes close in certain ways...but lacks that quicky charachter...and for me..it isn't about money...because I am far from rich!

as far as Gixxer owners....almost every Gixxer owner I know rides one by choice...not by what they could or couldn't afford....some of them are hard core Zuke fans forever regardless!

Now I respect anyones bike choice and, for the record I like the 749/999, although I do prefer the looks of the 916 series.

But that Indiana, well it's just

No offence intended to Indiana owners. ;)
I hear you man.

But i would TOTALLY want one to have as a "everyday" ride, to and from work. It would REALLY sting the Harley and cruiser owners in the company to have a Ducati Cruiser down in the carpark. :D

I´d want it with ALL the big cruiser stuff, like the one in the pic. leather straps and tassels.. but I´d wear a full race suite to and from work (and a full-face hel,met with a VERY dark visor) :D

But givven a choice.. Well. the 350 Scrambler is the one i´d really want as a classic ducati..
sort of a very early Multistrada.

I think this speaks to the point I was trying to make in a previous post. Only you can allow yourself to enjoy the bike of your dreams. As an "old guy" I can assure you that I have spent all too much time in my life letting other's opinions influence how I regarded various things/events in life. Everyone gets to have their "vision/understanding/opinion" of things in life. It doesn't have to be yours. And, when you allow someone's opinion to be yours, it's not their fault. It's your own damned fault for accepting it. (as it has been mine and most everyone else over the years.) So don't waste your time telling other people that they should be nice to you. It's not going to happen. I mean really, if I tell you it hurts my feelings that you think/express a certain opinion are you going to change? What I'm trying to get at is basically this: don't believe other people's "truths." Find your own and enjoy them.

You know I feel sorry for the guys that buy the MultiStrada or 749/999 or SS, saved their hard earned money for it, realized some childhood dreams, wants to share this dream with others and then only to be told by a fellow Ducatista that his bike is ugly day in and day out ... I really do.
As long as they enjoy their bikes, and think the bikes are beautiful, what the hell does it matter what anyone else thinks. uh, except for the Multistrada - that bike...TRULY UGLY and the MH900e.......Beauty may only be skin deep - but ugly, on those two bikes, is clear to the bone.

bruce, your reply is based on a sentence of mine that you cut in half, there was a key phrase that followed too... I notice you like to do that :D Well, in any case, you give a good reminder and good advice, so.... thanks, good luck... gotta get back to work. :)

With you on the Scrambler thing, I had one as my first bike and in the same colourscheme as that one, albeit mine was only the 250.

Here's a gratuitous pic of my old Scrambler but it's so old that it was taken before colour films were invented. ;)

N.B. mine had the shorter (and totally cored) silencer for the authentic Ducati sound.

Zoom--- Well that's definitely true by my experience too, I love gixxers forever, and said it here many times ... but your reply refers to 'SOME' where my original comment referred to 'MOST' .... two different things man! ... K, gotta run.

Most of the truly hard-core Gixxerlovers I've encountered (and I've really only met a handful that are as passionate about their Gixxers as any Ducatisti is about their Ducs) are also Mat Mladin worshipers. He's King of the Mountain now, and has brought Suzuki up with him. If he ever retires or pulls a Rossi and changes marques, the Gixxer will be yesterday's news.

Unless Ben Spies picks up the torch and runs with it.

The old adage of "win on Sunday, sell on Monday" is alive and kickin'.

That's not to say that Gixxers aren't incredible performers. Looks-wise, though, I'd choose the R1 over it any day. But that's just me. (People here who've known me for a long time know that I'm a closet Yamaha fan.)

Please respect me and allow me to enjoy the bike of my dreams, and participate in a forum for exchange of ideas, experiences and camaraderie... In this same environment, spare me of having to come across way too much casual criticism that can turn a perfectly good man into a fire breathing asshole over time (it took over one year for this to happen to me, by the way, as I have been actively and peacefully here since late '04).

.

Migz123:

This is the full sentence to which I was responding. Actually, it was the feeling/sentiment in the sentence. That is, that someone else could cause you not to enjoy your bike and/or cause you to morph from "a perfectly good man into a fire breathing asshole over time..." I was just trying to point out that if other's opinions and statements can cause you to not enjoy your bike or affect your behavior, then I think you are giving them way too much power in your life. I have no doubt that you are a good person. Why let anyone change you? I'm done with that in my life. And, FWIW, I wish you nothing but good times in yours. But, you won't get that if you cede control to others. Just trying to share what I've learned in the spirit of comraderie.

Was wondering if anyone has any clue what proportion of ducati.ms members own older (Tambi) vs newer (PT) era SBK bikes?
FWIW, I've had 3 Ducs since 1997. Had 2 900 SS/SP's ('97 & 96) and my current '02 998. Last Spring I was looking for a DS 1000 SS and couldn't find any, so began including a 748s in the search. But then, thanks to a call from Susie at BCM, I got a lead on the 998. For $8500 I just couldn't avoid buying it, even though there's no way I can use it all on the street (and due to my limited talent).

A 998 for 8500 ? Sounds pretty sweet to me.

Per the question, I ride an 888SPO and love the bike. I expect to get a more modern Ducati Superbike when a hot deal falls into my lap, or when a new model shows up that makes me grab for my wallet !

I am patient. Plenty to do and ride in the interim.

Okay, this is a side-track, but bevel's post just inspired me. I recently saw a little joke e-mail about "how dirty is your mind" that did something like this, so here goes...

How Dirty Is Your Mind?

"I expect to get a more modern _______ when a hot _______ falls into my lap, or when a new model shows up that makes me grab for my _______ !

I am patient. Plenty to do and _______ in the interim."

That's an exact quote with only a few words removed for the dirty-minded. :D
