I thought the whole reason Terblanche got the job was 'cause he studied under Tamburini at the Cagiva Research Center, so maybe Ducati was thinking that they'd get a "next-generation" or an evolution of the 916 design out of PT?

Just personally I think maybe PT wanted create his own legacy, so instead of using the 916 has a starting point he just did his own thing.

Honestly when the 999/749 first came out I didn't think it was that easy on the eyes, but only cause the 916/996/998 design was status quo. Once I saw the 999 in person I thought it was beautiful. I still find myself staring at my 03 749 once in a while!

I'm curious now though for 2007, if they will really try to redesign the bike? (Since I've been reading some rumors about that). But anything more than a mild update could show Ducati's own lack of confidence in the current design...I think they'll probably just release the Desmosedici RR and SuperMotard and see what happens...

More fuel for the fire

Do you guys see hints of the 999 in this? It's the 1993 Ducati Supermono that Terblanche also designed. I see some resemblance in the fuel tank and side fairing...I don't know- I'm on board if I think of the Supermono as the predecessor to the 999 vs. the 916. http://www.ducati.com/heritage/anni90/supermono/supermono.jhtml

Both with mag wheels even! Carbon exhaust?....Double-sided swing arm? ish..
