Hi all, well after a sorry story of buying a van to cart my bike and myself from Sydney to Cairns, the van has blown up and I'm left to sort out the mess and scramble to find some other means of getting the bike north.

So I thought I'd put a shout out here on the off chance someone may have a contact or a useful suggestion as to what to do. Note: riding it isn't an option as I'll be sharing the driving of the second van + bike with another person, at least that's the plan thus far.

I've tried ringing all manor of bike transport providers and removalists without sucess. All the bike movers are booked or have no trucks headded off until the new year.

I could really do with some help here so if anyone can assist please let me know.

Thanks, Jo

Hi Adam, I did look into that a little while ago and hiring a vehicle one way was over 1K then add petrol. I decided against it. We already have one van plus bike doing the trip so I'll freight mine.

As of now I've secured a spot with All West Transport from Syd to Brisbane and Matt at Classic Rocker Motorcycles is helping out by taking delivery (among other thinngs).

Now all that needs to be sorted is the leg from Bris to Cairns and fingers crossed the bike and I will be reunited safely there.

Did you get to Cairns OK? Are you heading up to the Cape?

Hi Craig, Yes I made it to Cairns in one piece. Bike made it too I'm pleased to say. Not planning to head any further North.

Went for a short ride today up to Ellis Beach and went to Port Douglas on Christmas Day but boy is it warm here, will take a bit of getting used to.

Glad to finally get out of Sydney though. Cairns drivers are a bit how you going though, don't know why that is.

Just a final word on the moving exercise. The second bike arrived safely and without a scratch the other day.

It was carried by MMS (Motorcycle Movement Specialists). Fantastic, they have a fully outfitted closed in Mack. The truck is designed to carry bikes and Glen was all you could ask for. On time, polite, helpful and well priced.

MMS (Glen Gale) can be reached on 0407 988007 or [email protected]

So, anyone needing a bike moved in Qld I highly recommend their services.

Just for my future reference Jo, how much did this exercise cost you?

Glad you found a reliable motorcycle freighter. I recently heard from a friend, don't know the exact details, who shipped 2 of his BMW's from Brisbane to Carins but they never arrived. He is still trying to take them to Court for this poor bugger.

I recently moved back to Perth after living in Cairns for 12 years. It cost $1100 to truck my Sport 1000 from Cairns to Perth and it arrived with $500 damage . My insurance excess was $600. Anyway try riding up the Gilles Highway to Yungerburra - best road for bends I have ever ridden.

Ouch! but didn't the trucking company take out insurance on the cargo? That is really low. Hope you have some good roads to stretch the Sport 1000's legs.

Loved Perth for the briefest time I spent there and highly recommend it to any thinking of migrating over. Regret not having a bike whilst there.

Albert- There was a slight price difference between the carriers for each bike and I don't recall exactly the price but it was around the $600 mark.

I also think the prices were a little higher because it was Christmas and there was a bit of a scramble to secure a spot.

And how the hell did two BMWs go missing between Bris and Cairns. I suppose he is taking action via the police - court. That's outrageous!!

Albert - Most trucking companies tell you the bike is "insured" - but when you read the fine print the insurance only covers total loss or rollover. None of them will cover cosmetic damage to the bike.
