Okay I've this oil leak coming from the pick-up filter. I noticed the leak after changing the oil I renewed the crush washer both here and on the crankcase drain lug. I've changed the oil countless number of time and this is a first. Has anyone seen this before? Maybe the crush washer slipped? I have the pick-up filter torqued to 42 Nm. The crush washers are different sizes, did I put the wrong one here?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I believe the crushwasher slipped, and therefore it's not seating right and causing your leak. Remove/Inspect and replace, and you should be ok.

I figured that's what happened. Just wanted to bounce some ideas off everyone. Sucks that I have to change the oil again. Haven't even put a mile on the oil change yet.

Thanks,

B

You don't have to change oil again, or drain the engine. Just remove the side plug/mesh filter, and change the crush-washer. Keep the bike on it's side stand and you won't loose any oil.

When you did drain the oil, you did drain it from the big plug in the bottom of the case right?? not just from that small plug below the side plug/mesh filter????

see picture.

Aww, that helps. I wasn't sure if the bike on the side stand was enough lean to keep oil from coming out. I did drain the oil from both the crankcase plug (10mm) and the side pick-up filter plug (21mm).

DO NOT EVER REMOVE THE MESH FILTER DRAINPLUG!

The screwtype drainplug is only there because Ducati used that hole for drilling in the case. It should NEVER be removed, because getting it to seat and not leak is a b*tich. Trust me, been there and done that.

Never use any other drainplug then the bottom one to get oil out of your engine.

That one I know not to remove. When I first bought the bike, I thought about taking that one out as well. Then thougtht why, Ducati was nice enough to put a big whole right in the bottom for draining the oil.

Thanks for the help,

Brett
