Years ago (20+), I vaguely remember thinking that it wasn't a good idea to put stickers on helmets because it could damage the hard shell. Years ago I had a polycarbonate helmet (if I remember rightly), nowadays I have a decent Arai helmet. Question; is it okay to put stickers on helmets? I was thinking of putting some reflective red tape on the back. God knows where I got this thought from about stickers damaging helmets.

NJ Helmet

I think in NJ the DMV requires you to have the following when operating a motorcycle:

"Approved non-reflective helmet with four inches of reflective tape on each side"

little do they know that by doing so on the wrong helmet you are compromising its integrity.

Helmets now days are better; I put decals/stickers in the visors and also in the shell. Without a prblem.
Just make sure you comply with your state regulations.
