Does anybode know the diameter of the 999r and the sc 1000 monoposto steering stem diameter down where it is pressed fitted in the botom tripple?

Im in the progress of switching forks.

I know its a bad ide but what about shortening the 999r stem and welding it with some kind of tube inside about 1 cm couse thats what is needed. Has anyone done this?

the steering stem is screwed into the lower super
bike clamp, not just pressed.
It is a standard thread that unlocks to the left, but
you have to heat up the clamp, as it is glued in too.

be smart and have a custom stem made, that's
the only way to go in my opinion, followed by
a custom upper clamp too.
be informed that you'll change your front wheel's
trail also with this alteration, as the offset of the
superbike forks is bigger.

cheers.

.

Yes i know i will change the offset, it vill be the same as the 749r, ill have to try. The sc is dead heavy steering stock so it might turn out better.

I did the same mod to my monster with a pair of gsxr forks and tripples and it was great improvement.

Is the sc stem allso threaded you think?

Is the SC stem the same diameter as the SS1000?
yes, diameter and bearings of SS and SC are the
same, and the length of the stem should be too.

steering head is ~176mm long, just the mh freaks
out with its ~190mm.

I dont know about that, i have the 999r stem and the sc stem on the floor at home, the only diffrence is that the 999r stem is 1 cm longer then the sc stem other then that they are identical. It uses the same bearings.

okay, i have taken a 1098 lower clamp, which is
identical to the ones used with the 916 and 999,
and the stem has been 35mm thick as mentioned
by ST2leMans Tom. It uses ball bearings unlike
the ones used with sport classics and supersports.

but there seem to be two kinds of superbike stems,
for adjustable and non-adjustable steering angles
maybe.

that said, i think it could be welded, with a nice tube
inside, why not.

my aluminum stem is a little thin at one point too,
makes me wonder if i should have it re-done.
