I'm about to join yet another fraternity in the world of Ducati soon. I'm in the process of picking up a '97 900ss and had a question regarding spools on the swingarm. Is there a clean/easy/preferred way of adding spools for a rear stand? I'll be using a PitBull stand that I've been using on my Monster and wasn't sure how to add some spools to the arm. The bike is an SS/SP so it has the aluminum swinger on it. Is it possible (or advisable) to add threaded inserts to the arm, then screw the spools into those? Would it be better to attach something to/through (is this early a bike running the hollow axle yet?) the rear axle itself?

Does anyone out there have a better suggestion for this?

I'd be REALLY scared about drilling into the aluminum.

I have welded mounts for spools on the underside of my ss/sp swingarm. I'll post some photos for you to check out how it was done.

Here are some pictures of what I did. Low temp TIG welding is the safest way to go, it puts the least stress on the material. Don't mind the grime, it's time for a detailing...
