I am currently building a special based on a 1000ds multistrada. I want to put the battery under the tank and was wondering what the smallest battery is that i could get away with. It needs to be on its side rather than upright as space is tight.

Anyone got any experience or suggestions?

Checkout Anti-Gravity Batteries. I have one in my 944 ss and another in my 1327cc Pro-Street Suzuki. They spin the engines as though the plugs were removed. I even started my truck with the Ducati battery once when the truck battery died. The one in the Suzuki is now over 8 years old and still works fine. I really can't say enough good about them and they weigh next to nothing. They do cost big though, but this is a get what you pay for item.

I have (literally) an exploded view of a antigravity battery . After opening it up I would NOT recommend one. VERY cheaply made. NO charge protection circuit. If you go lithium I would (after reading) go for a FULL SPECTRUM. Not available here in Australia:(
