Who sells Sil Moto headers for 1000ss? Does anyone know the effect of this header compaired to stock on a built 1000ds motor?

An aftermarket header does absolutely nothing for power. people just buy them 'cause they look cool. Yes, I have a SilMoto header for my 900SS-not yet mounted.

I bought mine (for my 900 SS/SP track bike) for cornering clearance. A bit lighter and maybe a bit more power, but nothing dramatic. Doesn't Motowheels carry them?

Sorry to say you're mistaken :). I'm sure you'll be surprised when you get to install the headers (and adjust the fuelling accordingly) ;)

I did buy a set of Sil Moto headers for my SS1000. The bike has a pair of Pistals, balanced crank, Kaemna flywheel (660 gr), open air filter and pipes, DP ECU and PC III with custom maps.

The Silmoto headers helped between 3500 and 5500rpm. Have a look here:

Red is Silmoto but with db killers.

We could probably get another bhp here and there but I've left it for another time (hopefully I'll manage to flow the heads at some point).

Just got a set of Sil-moto headers for my '95 900SS at Motowheels.

Their website says they're currently out of stock for the SS1000DS though,gotta special order them.

Doesn't look like much improvement to me. Maybe 2 more hp between 4,000 and 5,000 rpms?
It's almost 4 (not clear to see in the attached image - saw it on the dyno's monitor). Definitely not much improvement. What I did notice though is a slightly better pull between 3 and 5000 rpm (especially with a gear up).

In the circuit you won't notice it that much (except when in very tight curves) but I notice it everyday when I ride to/from work ;)

4hp isn't a lot...
But on a 93.7hp it's 4.27% from 3-5k... It's OK just rather high HP/Dollar ratio...

I was trying to get it for my SportClassic..

Yeah, relatively speaking - a 4hp gain on a 80-90hp Ducati is nothing to overlook. A 4hp gain or loss on a 150hp gain is not as significant.



I've got sil moto headers on a 900. They are significantly lighter than the OEM, and the overall finish is nicer than the OEM setup (and before installation, I had mine ceramic coated to reduce temps, and pretend that the minimal increase in scavenging would put my 900 2v in pole position... ha!) For performance gains other than in ground clearance or weight savings, they only allow more flow where other necessary motor adjustments have been made.

For larger diameter exhausts, I think of it like: "Great, you can have more flow "out", but if you don't actually have more to flow "out" (as in, you didn't increase the through-put of the motor - more air and fuel in, valve / head job, displacement, etc), then they simply can't offer any benefits - you can't take advantage of its additional flow abilities if you don't have additional flow."

Perhaps its fair to budget for a set of headers when doing significant motor build on the 2v, BUT if its pretty straightforward stuff...I've seen too many builds using the relatively 'decent' flowing stock headers to consider it a wise use of money (better to budget towards wheels, etc...)

Indeed, not the best HP/$$ mod for a bike without some work on the heads, however I just cannot afford doing it all at once...:rolleyes: Next engine mod on the list is head work, hopefully by end of this year (santa claus gift??:think::D:D)

Agree. That's exactly why I want to get the heads ported :cool:
