Just Picked up this 1996 SS SP for $2200, 15K miles, hasn't ran in 3 year previous owner never got a chance to ride it, He didn't appear mechanically inclined.
I had a 92 750 SS bought new, back in the day put Flat slides on it Termingnoni spaghetti exhaust (which I regret selling), but I always wanted a 900 SP. I'm a big Ducati fan, just finally came back around. Honda vintage Superbike fan and have a HRC kitted 83 Interceptor, a Superbike setup 79 CB750F SS, and an ST 1300, and this is going to fit nice in the collection.
Carbs were all plugged up and the gas in the tank had crystallized. I remedied all that and she runs like a champ on the IV bottle. I have a fuel pump coming and should have it tomorrow. Checked the belts and they are like new, flushed all the hydraulics and fresh oil. Will work on cosmetics next. Bodywork has a lot of garage rash and needs a good paint buff and correction. Carbon fenders will get a re-coat of clear. Other than that she's sweet.
if you look at early frames (as yours should have had from the factory) the tank latch bolts went into basically 2 nuts welded to the frame top tubes. later versions starting in 1997 (us) had a long bridge with much more weld such as you have.
The swingarm pivot bolt looks to have a fully encapsulated head, if you cannot see the side of the bolt head (from the front looking rearward) then you have the later style swingarm .
Your swing arm pics do not show the swingarm pivot bolts so take some more , of the bolt head area . Bottom of the swingarm facing up.
Might as well snap some pictures of the cylinder studs as well and we can see if you have the good studs. Chrome/silver studs usually are bad. black coated studs are good. know that there are aftermarket silver studs that are also good.

A thin washer between the bolt head and heim joint ball is a good idea to keep the rod from popping off the ball end. this was a factory service bulletin back in the day and is easy to do.
Thanks, I already did that, balanced the carbs with RPM meter and idle drop method and sync gauges. I'm a very seasoned motorcycle mechanic. 48 + years. Since 16 years old.
the frame and the wheels should be the two different colours.
eric - did your replacement frames come with those stickers on them, or would they have been ordered separately? our frames didn't have stickers. well, maybe they had the zdm906sc3 one? forget now.
Stickers did come with the new frame but were NOT applied, some people wanted them on and others not so much. I do have a sheet of stickers here with a frame IIRC that never was installed so I can grab a pic of them when I get a free moment.
After finding a serious crack in the frame of my 900ss I have decided to bring my plans to strip and rebuild the 900ss forward some what. The crack was in the frame when I bought the bike but on a ride into town yesterday the bike started acting strange when going around corners at speed and...
Hey everyone, I thought I would start a little build thread on here. I guess it's not really a build, but we all love these threads right? This is my original thread where I got help discovering just exactly what I had bought, special thanks to Ducvet and Belter!

A friend of mine gave me a set of 749 masters he still had laying around after he sold his bike (Brembo PR18 for the brake and Brembo PRSomething for the clutch) because I helped him rebuilding the roof on his house last summer.
Both should be in good working condition. Remote reservoir version...
I think my ‘93 SS has the dreaded frame crack. It’s really subtle though. I was really hoping to avoid this. Now I wonder how long it has been there. I’ve had the bike since 2001. My question, for those who have experienced this... is this a drop what you’re doing and fix this immediately kind...
New to the forum but long time Ducati fan / owner (996, 999, Monster Evo 1100). Have admired the Super Sport since the early 90's but never owned one- until now! Picked her up about two months ago. Advertised on CL as an original owner, 96 in “excellent” condition. Turned out to be a rough but...
