SC Aluminum tank shape / price poll

This is the first poll from thread http://www.ducati.ms/forums/showthread.php?t=64418

We need to figure out if the aluminum tank should have the stock shape and a price point.

Please be honest in what you are willing to spend on a tank. It will be important later on.

Thanks

For those that are answering that you want a different shape than stock, what changes do you want?

More capacity, different aesthetic, particular style?
same "exterior" shape (appearance), but i would like to see a tank that requires airbox removal and uses a lot of that space (leave space for TPO Beast) for more capacity. i believe there should be enough space to get about 5 gallons.

personally i love my tank shape, i like the gas cap, dont mind the fuel pump etc... i just want aluminum and more capacity.
I'll take anything that provides a 5 gallon GT tank that looks retro. I don't mind having a bike that looks different as long as it is well made, requires no additional parts (pump, ect.) and captures the feel of a 1970's cafe bike.
I like the basic shape of my GT tank. If it were a little exaggerated to allow for more fuel that would be fine. I plan on keeping my stock airbox, etc. so anything that doesn't allow for the stock undertank set-up wouldn't work for me.
Another GT owner checking in!

An extra gallon or so of capacity would be great, but I'd be satisfied with all stock. I'd be ok with eliminating the airbox to get the extra capacity.

I am with the majority (so far) of GT owners in preferring the stock shape, but would like a bit more capacity - whether this involves the airbox or simply enlarging the present shape a bit (or both) I would definitely go for it. I would like to keep the pump, cap et al. The stock shape is gorgeous (IMHO) and fits the character of the GT so well - plus it fits my knees perfectly.
My experience with other bikes is that eliminating the airbox can result in a drop in performance. Is there an airbox eliminator kit that works well on the 1000DS motors without compromising streetability?

I run the TPO Beast on my daily ride, and several others are running the Beast-R. The Duc Shop has these. They all seem to work well for our engines.
Would be happy with totally stock myself but I would also be willing to pull off my airbox to get more gas inside with the same look outside. Yes Yes Yes:D

More gas stock look big + up for me

The above post is correct about beast and beast R. You can't just get rid of the airbox and stuff air filters on. Its the same thing with carbs or throttle bodies you have to use the right velocity stacks for your motor set up. Change your cams may need a different set of stacks. Found that very true in VW bug motors.

I usually find performance improvement....... of course a fuel consumption increase too :D

I was beginning to think that I was the only one who felt this way.

I really like the shape, but I NEED some more capacity for those VERY long days in the saddle.

I also have TPO-R Beasts and filters, so I have plenty of space where the airbox used to be for the extra capacity.

There is even plenty of space with the airbox in place. When I was swapping the airbox lid during the Termi installation process, I left the 8mm socket AND adapter with extension still on the bolt under the tank. It didn't even touch the tank!

So yeah count me in for a bigger but same shape tank.
Honestly I like to stop regularly...so the tank volume is of no issue to me. Maybe if your in remote areas it may be different...if it were larger...well that would be a bonus.

Let's just get this happening soon.

SC AL Tank

Hi, y'all,

Close-to-stock shape in AL, but with more capacity sounds good to me. I'm not familiar with the airbox-ectomy alternatives, but if there is a viable one, I'd go with it. (I just picked up my '08 GT a week ago, and I'm still getting snapped in.)

Bruce,

How difficult would it be, once we have the scans, to generate two different tank bottom panels. One stock, and the other with a bowl shape for those that want to have more capacity at the expense of the airbox removal?

Since, I'm assuming, that the bigger cost for the tooling is for the top part, it would seem to my limited understanding that the bottom could be more modular?

This is assuming that there aren't problems with the shape and the fuel getting to the pump pickup.

Thanks

Way ahead of ya...was working on it last night. Definitely doable.
Sweet!
+1 stock shape but more capacity.
maybe be a point that can pull the trigger for some guys. easier if no airbox mod needed so there's no added $$$.
seems there are many replies from gt owners . are we talking just sc style tanks or both ? I haven't taken the survey yet because I am a gt rider who
really likes the look of the gt item . MORE FUEL WOULD BE A MUST !
I think you are a few years too late.....The project is dead.
