Why do the stainless pipes on my full Termi look like they are going rusty? All my mates stainless systems still look nice and new!!
Best way to try and clean?

Scoth brite pads.
They rust because there's iron in those pipes, there's grades of purity, some have more iron than others and some are 100% stainless but that would make them more expensive.....
Here's Termi for ya!
You won't see that happen (or I never did should I say) on Arrows and LV

Yeah, cause Termi's are cheap????...... Sorry I just could not help myself:D

But yep, your right the quality of material makes a huge difference. I built a stainless fuel system for a yacht, and they insisted on buying the stainless tubing from India, (cause the tubing was way cheaper) and the finish and workability of the same grade (316L) of stainless was night and day when compared to 316L from another source. Had a guy spending literally weeks on finish work because the material was so crappy!

Oh dear.....Termi are a bit of a let-down. Probably the most expensive...and for sure not the best build quality. There are a few threads, 'which exhaist should I buy?', I guess the answer is looking like NOT TERMI !! I will get the ScotchPads out and start rubbing...at the bits I can get to. Thanks.

On the upside, they look really good powdercoated! ;)
Don't worry, clean them up once in a while and enjoy it, you already have it, make the best of it!
Cheers!

Powder Coating

OK...what's the deal on powder coating?
Colour? Titanium bike....so guess it has to be black. (Any other ideas...pink maybe!!)

I guess they have to mask off the threaded bosses?

How about the 'slip in' bits...does the powder coat make them too big to 'slip in'? Do I need to make sure they mask off the ends of the pipe that 'slip in'?

What about the flanges that bolt to the head? Is it ok to powder coat those?

All info to help me avoid pitfalls (which seem to be everywhere!!) much appreciated.

Nick

If you go that route I'd suggest taking few pictures (you'll need some rough lenght size for estimate) and ask whomever is handling your transaction for advice if you do it on line.
I've used Jet Hot on my 1098 and was very happy but looking at where you are located I wouldn't be able to suggest any, these days they do everything except for the carbon and plastic so even the rivets can be done.
The color is up to you!

There seems to be a few powder coat companies here in Kuala Lumpur...I'll take a trip next week and visit a few.
Good though I think I am at many things...colour co-ordination is not one of my best things...so I guess it will be boring black....then the difficult decisison...matte or gloss! (So hard!!). Nick

Make sure you check carefully with the companies you contact, not all are totally honest about the temperatures their coatings can sustain . Powder coating in general is not sufficient for coating headers, it burns off eventually. It's just not rated for that kind of heat. There are other coatings, Jet Hot or Cerma-chrome etc that will do the trick

They make coatings that have the same finish as brushed stainless. Cerma-Chrome is the one I have used on 2 sets of headers with excellent results over years of use. One on a Fireblade and another on an injected big block chrysler...

Just for general info...a bit of reasearch and yes...as Tiduc says....standard powder coating is not recommended for exhaust headers....needs to be one of the 'ceramic' coats....and sadly here in Malaysia...it seems one can only get ceramic in black! So my idea of a gold front pipe to match the Ohlins is out the window! (Probably just as well as my 'colour sense' leaves a lot to be desired!!)
