That's a fantastic introduction.
Congratulations on your new Multi! She's beautiful!
Heh - It was a ride full of contrastsThat is a dream buy. A few hours with the due diligence and then 800 miles to really find out what you bought. I can't remember buying anything but new cars that easily.
Too me that is a very interesting ride. To be able to get heat stroke and have a snowball fight on the same ride isn't possible here anytime of year.
2000 miles in 6 days!! That is a hell of a first ride on a new-to-you bike. Was it the old 955 or the 1050?I did this type of buy too...except mine was a Triumph Sprint ST that I flew into Tampa Bay, FL for and rode back to Fargo, ND. A great time! 2,000 miles in 6 days.

I think it was a good part of the reason for the sale - “i’m just riding this thing through the desert!” Luckily I missed out on any crazy winds but you’re not kidding about that heatCongrats on the new bike and fun ride report! I have ridden around out in the NV area when I was living in Las Vegas. I always enjoyed the fact that it rarely rains (compared to Florida where I live now) but the middle of the day heat can be draining and the brutal Winds can be hazardous!
#hedidthemathAnd for the non mathematicians.: 1/postwhore is the reciprocal of a postwhore. i.e. the inverse of a postwhore... ok, for fuck's sake... the opposite of a postwhore dammit!!!
I had a 2011 Triumph Sprint ST. Rode it from Los Angeles to Madison Wisconsin and back. 2,480 miles. All freeway. I put risers on the bars to get a bit of weight off my hands. Great bike. Great motor. Then I had a 2015 Tiger 1050. Great bike again. The 2008 1050 ABS. I've since added Adreani fork Cartridges, adjustable Ohlins rear shock, drop pegs, and electronic cruise control from MCCRUISE in Australia. All said and done with labor for instal I"ve put about $4K into the bike to make it what I want rather than what it was. My next bike will be a Pipes Peak or S. The Pikes Peak is soooooooo capable though. Here's a pic from The Tail...had to hit that on the way back.

This is a good point to call out - if any of you folks are bringing a bike back to California and it has less than 7500 miles, it must have a 50-state federal emissions sticker on it. Though honestly this shouldn’t be an issue on any modern Duc but if you’re looking for anything a little more esoteric, please keep an eye out for the mileage or ensure that it’s 50-state fed emissions sticker is either visible and in good shape, or (ahem) you might need to get creative like nalla57 thereI thought that out of state had to have 7,500 miles? Bought a 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 from Vegas. Back to Los Angeles. The Federal sticker on the swingarm was very worn and my fear was that they would not accept the worn sticker. Once a bike is a nogo in California you can't try again. (What I heard anyway) So in the manual they have pictures of all the stickers. So I scanned the federal sticker and printed it on sticky plastic and stuck it under the pillion seat. Rubbed it a bit to make it look old. Showed the DMV the "new" federal sticker and all passed. Nice having a bike without all the California stuff. No Vapor canister etc. Anyway nice bike. Great buy.
after LABV one year when i was young and stupid i rode a ktm super enduro back from vegas starting at 4 pm on the night before thanksgiving, it was in the 40s when i left , by the time i got to barstow it was in the high 30s, there was no wind protection on that bike, good times) but the middle of the day heat can be draining and the brutal Winds can be hazardous!
