I'm thinking about using leds as a set of indicator lights..

I went with the naked look and fabbed up a custom gauge setup.. after running the bike without the indicator lights the battery went dead. I assume it needs the light to complete the charging circuit?? I mess with air cooled vw's too and they won't charge without a lite in the dash.

Sooo... my question is, will an led allow the system to charge or do i need the resistance of an incandescent bulb? I have an empty slot in my left hand controls that would be perfect for leds to indicate the neutral, charge, oil, and low fuel.

any ideas??

The light completes the charging circuit.

It must come on when you turn the key on and go off once the engine is running. If it comes on when the engine is running (and the revs are up) it could mean a dead or dying alternator or regulator/rectifier.

If it doesn't light when you turn the key on it could just be a blown globe and teh battery will not charge.

I have no idea about leds and if they will work in this situation.

I think i'm gonna stick to incandescent bulbs.. i plugged in the dash and the battery light stays on below about 3500 rpms.. battery is fully charged too..
